Eric Dane describes his approach to fatherhood
Eric Dane appeared on Netflix’s 'Famous Last Words' in an episode released Friday, February 20. In the interview with Brad Falchuk, Dane reflected on one of the hardest realities of his ALS diagnosis, knowing he won’t be there for his daughters’ weddings.
“Most likely, I won't be around to walk my kids...my girls down the aisle and have grandkids, and that's a tough thing to deal with,” he said.
The actor, father to Billie, 15, and Georgia, 14, also described his approach to fatherhood, emphasizing the importance of showing up. “Showing up is the number one quality. I haven’t been perfect with that. But I’ve always been there when it mattered,” Dane said.

When asked about regrets, Dane pointed to his marriage to Rebecca Gayheart. The couple separated in 2018 and filed for divorce, which they later moved to dismiss in 2025. “Yeah, well, their mother and I are no longer together. We’re still really best friends, but we’re not together. So by, you know, just by virtue of the distance and us living under separate…in separate homes, there’s a lot of time lost there,” he said. "But I made sure that I can be there as much as possible, and certainly when it counts.”
Eric Dane cherished every moment with his daughters
Eric Dane made a point to be present for the big moments in his daughters’ lives, from attending his daughter Billie’s ballet recitals to cheering on Georgia at her beach volleyball games.
“I’ve shown up to all of Billie’s ballet recitals. I’ve been to many Nutcrackers. And I’ll tell you, there are a couple pieces in there that are beautiful. But Jesus, the thing drones on, man,” joked the father of two. “Like three hours. But I’ve been to all of them. I go to Georgia’s beach volleyball games. I’m present in their lives whether I’m in front of them or 2000 miles away."
Dane’s death was announced on Thursday, February 19.
“With heavy hearts, we share that Eric Dane passed on Thursday afternoon following a courageous battle with ALS,” his family said in a statement. “He spent his final days surrounded by dear friends, his devoted wife, and his two beautiful daughters, Billie and Georgia, who were the center of his world."
“Throughout his journey with ALS, Eric became a passionate advocate for awareness and research, determined to make a difference for others facing the same fight. He will be deeply missed, and lovingly remembered always."
