NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Eric Trump handed his critics a low-hanging punchline while paying tribute to Charlie Kirk.

In a Tuesday sit-down on September 16 with Fox & Friends, Eric, 41, said the conservative firebrand had become “probably a second son” to former President Donald Trump.

“He became … probably a second son to my father,” Eric said of Kirk. “He fought beside us. I was on that stage with him a hundred times. I mean, he was an amazing person.”

Kirk, 31, was fatally shot on Wednesday, September 10, while speaking at Utah Valley University. The young activist was close to both the former president and his children.

Social Media pounces on Eric Trump

Critics on social media wasted no time roasting Trump’s actual second son.

"What do you mean 'like a second son' Eric? Donald Trump already has a second son! It’s you!" one user wrote.

"That’s a hilariously telling statement coming from Trump’s ACTUAL second son,” another chimed in.

“He was beautiful, he was like the Eric Trump I never had,” a third piled on.

“Demoted to stepson by Charlie Kirk,” another quipped.

"Well, I guess Eric really does know where he stands in the family hierarchy. Out in the driveway at the curb,” one joked.

"Amazing self-own on Eric’s part,” another wrote.

Eric is the third child of Donald and Ivana Trump. He has two older siblings—Donald Trump Jr, 47, and Ivanka Trump, 43—and two younger half-siblings, Tiffany Trump, 31, and Barron Trump, 19.

After Kirk’s death, Donald Trump Jr. remembered him as “like a little brother.” Donald Trump added, “Don said to me, ‘He’s sort of like a son to you.'”

This isn’t Eric’s first time being the family punchline. A 2017 New Yorker satire by Andy Borowitz imagined him griping, “Don, Jr., got this ginormous room, and I got a crappy little one. Don, Jr, got to work in the real estate company, and I got stuck with the winery. But all that’s about to change.”

Eric now serves as Executive Vice President of The Trump Organization.

Charlie Kirk’s death and 'unintended consequences'

Kirk’s shooting marked the third violent attack on Trump’s circle in just over a year. Before the 2024 election, Donald Trump was nearly killed twice — once when a bullet clipped his ear during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, and again while golfing in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Eric Trump blamed the left for all three.

“I always talk about the law of unintended consequences in the world, and they made the biggest mistake of their life,” he said. “They tried to do it to my father in Butler, they tried to do it to him on a golf course — now they did it to Charlie.”

“And you have the law of unintended consequences and they wonder why … we won every swing state. They wonder why we won the popular vote. They wonder why they just lost an entire generation — who, by the way, is going to be voting for generations. It’s all because of the insanity that no one can get behind,” he declared.

Those “unintended consequences” may already be showing. Kirk’s nonprofit Turning Point USA announced Monday that since his death, it has received over 37,000 new chapter requests — nearly twenty times its current campus presence.
