WASHINGTON, DC: James Comey has revealed his support for Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential race.

The former FBI Director announced on Friday morning, August 23, on X (formerly Twitter), where he expressed confidence in Harris' leadership.

In his X post, James Comey wrote, “Kamala Harris made me feel like it’s finally morning in America."

“Everyone who cares about the rule of law and America’s indispensable role in the world should vote for Harris and [Minnesota Gov Tim] Walz [(D)]. I will,” he added.

This endorsement marks a notable shift for Comey, who had previously supported Joe Biden during the 2020 Democratic primary.

However, his endorsement of Biden was met with resistance from the Biden campaign.

Andrew Bates, the director of rapid response for Biden's campaign at the time, sarcastically rejected Comey's support.

“Yes, customer service? I just received a package that I very much did not order,” Bates said at the time. “How can I return it, free of charge?” he added.

James Comey's criticism of Donald Trump

James Comey, who was dismissed by Donald Trump in 2017, has become an outspoken critic of the former president in recent years.

In May, the lawyers warned of the dangers posed by a potential Trump return to the White House, particularly for institutions like the FBI and the Department of Justice (DOJ).

“Serious for the Justice Department and the FBI, because Trump is coming for those institutions. He knows their power, and I think he has regrets that he didn’t work hard enough to corrupt them last time," said Comey.

"So, he’s coming for them, and that’s a danger for all Americans. He’s going to put people in positions in those organizations," he noted at the time.

"He didn’t have all-stars the last time; he’ll have the bottom of the barrel this time, but people who will want to do his will — and that should worry every American. This election matters because of a reason like that,” he added, according to The Hill.

Internet mocks James Comey's endorsement of Kamala Harris

As James Comey expressed his support for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 race, netizens mocked the former FBI director's endorsement as he previously broke a decades-long norm of not intervening in presidential elections and Hillary Clinton believed his investigation cost her the 2016 election in which Donald Trump won.

One user on X wrote, "James Comey is beyond Fraudulent and I believe he has a couple screws loose as well," and another added, "James Comey cost Hillary Clinton the election in 2016. Remember? Now he is endorsing Kamala Harris for President. Too little and too late. What Comey did to Hillary was certainly Election Interference."

"I understand James Comey is out there speaking his perspective on why we should vote, basically anyone but Trump, but he’s part of the reason why we are here in the first place. So, with that being said, it’s quite clear on who people should vote for, which is Kamala Harris for president! Choose calmness over chaos!" remarked a netizen.

"I mean, you know who no one wants to hear from ever again? James Comey," an individual commented, and another opined, "Nope! Harris should reject his endorsement after what he did to Hillary in 2016 with the email fiasco! He's part of the reason why we had Trump for 4 years!"
