Exploring the unfavorable allegations leveled against Meghan Markle over the years
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Meghan Markle - who was already a popular actress thanks to her starring role in ‘Suits’, took the world by storm in 2017 when her engagement to Britain’s Prince Harry was announced to the world.
Markle, by virtue of her many novelties, quickly inspired curiosity among fans of the Royal family worldwide.
The 42-year-old former actress was a biracial American divorcee, and she was going to complete the royal quartet of the ‘Fab Four’ - comprising of her then-would-be husband Prince Harry, Prince William and Kate Middleton.
The hype surrounding the ‘Suits’ actress reached astronomical heights with fans from both sides of the Atlantic waiting eagerly for her royal wedding.
In 2018, after the couple got married, they were bestowed with the titles of Duke and Duchess of Sussex by the late Queen Elizabeth.
But within two years, the novelty surrounding the duchess started subsiding with salacious rumors about Markle making their way to the public domain.
Rumors surrounding her reached a crescendo when the Sussexes publicly stepped down from royal duties in January 2020 and subsequently relocated to the American continent.
Their interview with Oprah Winfrey one year later only added fuel to the evergrowing rumors of a feud between the Sussexes and the royal family.
Here is a brief explanation of the allegations made against the Duchess of Sussex over the years.
Meghan Markle allegedly threw a tantrum over her wedding tiara
Following her fairytale marriage at St George’s Chapel, there were rumors that Markle allegedly threw a tantrum regarding the choice of her tiara.
While she was given a diamond and platinum band to wear on her wedding day, handpicked by the Queen, she allegedly was left unhappy by the choice. It was reported by some household insiders known to the former executive editor of The Sun, Dan Wootton, that she had wanted an emerald one, per Nicki Swift.
A source claimed, "Meghan had her heart set on this tiara with emeralds and Prince Harry hit the roof when they were told it was impossible for her to wear it," before explaining, "The provenance of the tiara could not be established — there were concerns it could have come from Russia originally."
When the incident reached the ears of the queen, she allegedly gave her grandson an earful. "There was a very heated exchange that prompted the Queen to speak to Harry," said the royal insider.
They continued, "She said, 'Meghan cannot have whatever she wants, she gets what tiara she's given by me'. The message from the Queen was very much Meghan needed to think about how she speaks to staff members and be careful to follow family protocols."
Meghan Markle allegedly made her staff members miserable
It has also been rumored that the duchess “put a lot of demands” on her staff members, making several of them quit in quick succession.
In May 2019, her right-hand woman Amy Pickerill quit when the couple moved to Frogmore Cottage. Earlier, Markle's private secretary, Samantha 'the Panther' Cohen also left her job after 17 years of service with the Royal family.
The first employee to quit was Melissa Toubati, Markle's personal assistant. According to a royal informant who told the Mirror, "She put up with quite a lot," adding, "Meghan put a lot of demands on her and it ended up with her in tears."
Kate Middleton was left in tears by Meghan Markle
It was rumored that the trouble between the two royal women started brewing when Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were residing in Kensington Palace.
According to tabloid rumors, the Princess of Wales reportedly snapped at Markle after catching her speaking rudely to a staff member.
Another rumor is that Markle made an unsavory comment to Kate Middleton about Princess Charlotte’s bridesmaid dress during a fitting, which resulted in an argument.
Subsequently, as a result of the argument, Kate was left in tears. One royal insider said to the Daily Beast, "Kate had only just given birth to Prince Louis and was feeling quite emotional.
Meghan Markle was accused of planning ‘Megxit’ all along
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry leaving the English shore for the USA was unfathomable to most royal fans. However, several tabloids and social media users thought it was probably not as unfathomable to Markle as it was to others.
According to Page Six, before settling down in England following her relationship with Prince Harry, Markle kept some of her clothes in a Toronto storage facility.
An insider shared that she had them delivered to her rented property in Vancouver Island when they arrived in Canada following ‘Megxit’. It led many to speculate whether she had planned for it before her marriage.
Meghan Markle was termed a ‘shapeshifter’ by an old friend
One of the duchess’ friends, who knew her from her ‘Suits’ days, once wrote in Tatler that the mother of two is not only a go-getter but also has a knack for reinventing herself.
Shinan Govani claimed in the writing, "Something that has stayed with me, especially post-Megxit, is that Meghan is no stranger to picking up and reinventing herself. Both a go-getter as well as a shape-shifter, she returns now with more social mojo than she could have ever imagined then."
Meghan Markle thought her in-laws lacked ‘warmth’
Among all the allegations against Meghan Markle, this one was especially explosive since it revealed that Markle thought her husband’s family lacked “warmth.”
In March 2020, the Daily Mail reported that she had allegedly been complaining about her life in the royal palace and claimed that family gatherings lacked “warmth.”
The source told the outlet then, "It's still weird to her that no one hugs and that everyone is so uptight, especially Kate.”
The source, who was reportedly Markle’s close friend, said, "She said it's obvious that Kate and William do not approve of their choices and that you could cut the tension with a knife."
The insider added that during Markle’s final trip as a senior royal, the two royal women seldom interacted with each other, and there was no eye contact.
