Ezekiel Emanuel slammed as he suggests swing state politicians over Biden for Dem presidential ticket
WASHINGTON, DC: Dr Ezekiel Emanuel, a former member of President Biden's transition team and a key figure in crafting the Affordable Care Act, stated on Wednesday, July 3, that any potential Democratic presidential ticket should be comprised solely of politicians from swing states.
Emanuel, 66, who was part of Biden's Covid-19 task force prior to the president taking office, mentioned on X that "the ONLY justification" for replacing the 81-year-old incumbent is to assemble a ticket that can "get to 270 electoral votes."
Ezekiel Emanuel emphasizes importance of winning elections
While Emanuel did not specify his recommended candidates to succeed Biden, their identities were apparent to those well-versed in politics, the New York Post reported.
“As a scientist, I look at data. As an Emanuel, I know that elections are about winning,” Emanuel wrote about his younger brother Rahm, who was Obama's White House Chief of Staff, served two terms as the mayor of Chicago, and then became Biden's ambassador to Japan.

So let's be clear: the ONLY justification for a nominee other than President Biden is a ticket that can get to 270 electoral votes. And the election comes down to six swing states, of which…
“[T]he election comes down to six swing states, of which four have blue governors that have proven they can win in a purple electorate,” the doctor added. “One has a popular astronaut who is a Senator.”
“Pick the two you like, and that’s the ticket,” Emanuel asserted.
Ezekiel Emanuel suggests nominees if Joe Biden withdraws
Emanuel's criteria indicate that if President Joe Biden were to withdraw or be disqualified from the Democratic nomination, two candidates from the following list should be on the ballot: Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers, Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs, and Senator Mark Kelly of Arizona.
The states most frequently viewed as pivotal to the 2024 election are Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. Georgia and Nevada currently have Republican governors, Brian Kemp and Joe Lombardo, respectively.
Senator Mark Kelly, who previously served as a NASA space shuttle pilot and flew four missions, transitioned from his career as an astronaut to politics.
Emanuel rejected the notion of adding California Governor Gavin Newsom or New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy to the ticket, reasoning that their states are unlikely to vote for the former President, Donald Trump.
“We don’t need candidates from deep blues [sic] states – like California or New Jersey,” Emanuel added in his tweet. “We need a ticket that can win in swing states. It’s the only choice.”
According to Emanuel's reasoning, Vice President Kamala Harris, with her background as a San Francisco district attorney and a US senator from California, should also be ruled out as a potential successor to Biden.
