WASHINGTON, DC: Vice President Kamala Harris found herself at odds with CNN's Anderson Cooper on Thursday night, June 28, as she staunchly defended President Joe Biden’s debate performance, which has faced widespread criticism, as per Fox News.

During the interview, Cooper didn’t hold back, pointing out that even members of Biden's own party were questioning his viability as a candidate. "Some within your own party think Biden should step aside," Cooper noted, referencing Biden's slow and hesitant debate performance that alarmed both liberal media and Democratic allies.

Kamala Harris responded by emphasizing Biden's clear contrast with former President Donald Trump on key issues. "What we saw tonight is the president making a very clear contrast with Donald Trump on all of the issues that matter to the American people. Yes, there was a slow start, but it was a strong finish," she asserted.

However, Cooper was not convinced. He cited Democratic lawmakers who had labeled Biden's performance as a "disaster" and a "trainwreck," expressing concerns that Biden failed to effectively counter Trump’s viewpoints.

"People can debate on style points, but ultimately, this election and who is the President of the United States has to be about substance," Harris argued. She criticized Trump as a liar, specifically targeting his answers on January 6, acceptance of the election results, and abortion.

Cooper interjected, "All that may be true, but the President of the United States was not able to make that case to Donald Trump on the stage tonight."

The exchange grew more intense as Cooper pressed on, suggesting that Biden appeared very different on stage compared to when Harris debated him four years ago.

"You debated against then-Vice President Biden four years ago, and he was a very different person on the stage four years ago when you debated him. That‘s certainly true, is it not?" he asked.

Harris sidestepped the comparison, focusing instead on Biden's overall record. "I got the point that you're making about a one-and-a-half-hour debate tonight. I‘m talking about three-and-a-half years of performance in work that has been historic," she said.

As Cooper continued to press, asking if the man on the debate stage was the one she saw daily, Harris shot back, "I‘m not going to spend all night with you talking about the last 90 minutes when I‘ve been watching the last three-and-a-half years of performance."

Cooper persisted, questioning if Harris had any concerns after watching Biden's debate performance. Harris admitted to the slow start but pivoted to the stakes of the upcoming election. "It was a slow start, I‘m not going to debate that," she acknowledged.

"I‘m talking about the choice in November. I‘m talking about one of the most important elections in our collective lifetime, and do we want to look at what November will bring and go on a course for America that is about the destruction of democracy," Harris continued.
