WASHINGTON, DC: A social media post went viral in December 2025 that claimed that Rep Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-NY, accused former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of having a drinking problem.

But is there any truth behind this claim? Let’s break it down.

Claim: Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said Nancy Pelosi has a drinking problem

A post circulated widely on social media platforms, suggesting that Representative AOC made a statement or accusation claiming that the former Speaker Nancy Pelosi suffers from a drinking problem.

The claim was used with inflammatory language to suggest a rift between the two prominent Democrats over Pelosi's alleged alcohol consumption.

A post by @America's Last Line Of Defense page on Facebook included a photo grid of AOC and Nancy Pelosi with the caption, "AOC says now that Nancy Pelosi is retiring, it's time for her to admit to her drinking problem. "I don't think I've ever seen her sober on the House floor," said Ocasio-Cortez. "She handles herself well, but that's not the point. She needs help." Pelosi's family has done several interventions over the years, but it's difficult to help someone who won't admit they have a problem. "It scares me that the alcohol may have made some of her decisions for her, especially on January 6th." For once, AOC makes a good point."

Similarly, a page on X, @mcafeenew, shared a post with the same caption and pictures.

Fact Check: AOC didn't say Nancy Pelosi has a drinking problem

The post is entirely false. The claim originates from America's Last Line of Defense, which is a satirical or parody news source that often mimics real news outlets to trick readers.

It is to be noted that Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez did not make any public or private statement asserting that Nancy Pelosi has a drinking problem.

America's Last Line of Defense's about section in the website states, "Dunning-Kruger-Times.com is a subsidiary of the “America’s Last Line of Defense” network of parody, satire, and tomfoolery, or as Snopes called it before they lost their war on satire: Junk News" while stating, "Before you complain and decide satire is synonymous with comedy.”

Claim that Nancy Pelosi has a drinking problem is not new

For years, Pelosi has been the subject of baseless claims suggesting she has a drinking issue.

Despite this persistent misinformation, her office has consistently stated that she does not drink alcohol, a position maintained since at least 2010.
