Fact Check: Did bad weather cause Trump to move Cabinet meeting from Camp David?
WASHINGTON, DC: As President Donald Trump moved the Cabinet meeting from Camp David to the White House, citing bad weather conditions on Wednesday, May 27, a rumor began circulating on social media platforms claiming that there was no such weather forecast, sparking speculations among online users.
Let us analyse and fact-check the viral claim.
Claim: Donald Trump moved Cabinet Meeting to White House due to bad weather
On Tuesday, May 26, Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform, “Based on the possible bad weather conditions tomorrow, we will be having our Cabinet Meeting in the White House, and will be postponing the Cabinet trip to Camp David. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DONALD J. TRUMP.”
But according to social media users, Trump’s usage of the possible bad weather conditions was to cover up his health-related issues as a reason why he couldn't travel to Camp David.
A user on X shared Trump’s post with a caption stating, “There's no bad weather tomorrow. Trump saw the doctor, and they told him to stay close to Walter Reed for monitoring."
The claim also spread on Facebook and X, coinciding with his three-hour visit to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, reportedly for preventative health checks.
Fact Check: Weather forecasts predicted rain and thunderstorms in Maryland and Frederick County
However, the claim that there was no bad weather forecast for Frederick County, Maryland, where Camp David is located, when Trump moved the Cabinet meeting, was false.
Trump announced on Truth Social at 4:47 pm EDT on May 26 that the Cabinet meeting would be moved, while weather forecasts predicted rain and thunderstorms in Maryland and Frederick County for May 27.
When Snopes contacted the White House Press Office about whether it could comment on claims, a spokesperson referred us to Trump's Truth Social post, writing, "He explains that it's weather-related."
Forecasts from AccuWeather and The Weather Channel predicted rain and thunderstorms near Camp David on May 27. Since presidents usually travel there by helicopter, the weather could have impacted travel plans for the Cabinet meeting.
Hence, there is no evidence that the meeting was moved to White House because of his health issues discovered during his visit to Walter Reed.
