Fact Check: Did conservationist Robert Irwin sue Pete Hegseth for $60 million?

WASHINGTON, DC: A rumor has been going around that wildlife warrior Robert Irwin supposedly slapped Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth with a $60 million lawsuit after an “explosive on-air showdown.”
The son of the late Steve Irwin allegedly took Hegseth to court over a TV dust-up gone wrong, according to viral social media posts.
Claim: Robert Irwin sues Pete Hegseth for $60M
One Facebook page declared, “‘BEATEN, BEATEN – PAY NOW!’ – Robert Irwin Sues Pete Hegseth and Network for $60 MILLION After Shocking On-Air Clash. No One Saw It Coming.”
The post began, “What began as a calm wildlife conservation interview quickly spiraled into chaos when Pete Hegseth turned the conversation hostile, publicly ridiculing Robert Irwin's environmental stance and accusing him of being a 'scripted eco-celebrity living off his father's name.’”
According to the story, Irwin held his ground. “But Robert didn't flinch. With composure and conviction, he fired back -- defending his late father's legacy and the cause he's dedicated his life to. His quiet firmness cut through the tension like a blade, leaving the studio in stunned silence.”
“Now, the fallout has reached a boiling point. Irwin has officially filed a $60 million lawsuit against Hegseth and the network, citing defamation and emotional distress following what many viewers have called 'one of the most unprofessional outbursts ever broadcast live,’" it added. "Calm, respectful, and unshaken -- Robert Irwin once again proved that strength doesn't always roar. Sometimes, it simply stands its ground.”
Fact Check: False as no such live TV clash happened
The claim is blatantly false, considering there was no blow-up in the first place.
Fact-checking website Snopes did some digging across Bing, DuckDuckGo, Google, and Yahoo. It found zero evidence that Irwin ever sued Hegseth, appeared on a show with him, or even crossed paths. If Robert Irwin and Pete Hegseth had actually gone at it live on TV, every major outlet from CNN to TMZ would’ve been all over it.
The whole saga is just another tall tale cooked up to drive clicks and ad revenue. The Facebook posts that pushed the rumor even linked to sketchy WordPress blogs stuffed with pop-up ads and clickbait headlines, Snopes confirmed.
The page where the claim originated, Irwin Generations, appears to be a repeat offender when it comes to publishing fake stories. A quick scroll through its feed showed multiple red flags, such as AI-generated images, robotic writing, and fabricated “news.”
Just days before the Hegseth claim, that same page spread another claim that Irwin had dropped out of a Pride Night on 'Dancing With the Stars'. That claim was also false.
Rumors have everyone suing Pete Hegseth
Meanwhile, the lawsuit rumor fits a familiar pattern. According to Lead Stories, searching the first line “BEATEN, BEATEN – PAY NOW!” brings up dozens of nearly identical posts. Each one swaps in a different celebrity or topic but follows the same cut-and-paste format.
In fact, the same viral formula has been used to claim dozens of celebrities sued Pete Hegseth, from Alicia Keys to Bruce Springsteen and even Phil Collins.

Among the other supposed plaintiffs listed are Rachel Maddow, Dick Van Dyke, Carlos Santana, Jimmy Page, Willie Nelson, Darcy Lynne, Nick Saban, Ann & Nancy Wilson, Josh Heupel, Andrea Bocelli, Cat Stevens, Keith Urban, Joe Walsh, Jasmine Crockett, Marty Stuart, Sophie Cunningham, Guy Penrod, Josh Groban, Darci Lynne, André Rieu, James Hetfield, Kid Rock, Blake Shelton, Kelly Clarkson, Tom Jones, Morgan Wallen, and John Foster.
Regardless, none of it ever happened.
Snopes even pointed out that it had already debunked a similar rumor claiming Tiger Woods had sued Hegseth using the exact same opening line.
