According to the viral claim, the eldest son of President Donald Trump once referenced a visit to Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia as inspiration for him to reflect on his family's financial sacrifices.

Donald Trump Jr allgedly suggested that visiting Arlington National Cemetery reminded him of the financial sacrifices his family made following his father's entry into politics.

Trump Jr allegedly said, "As we drove past the rows of white grave markers … I also thought of … all the sacrifices we'd have to make — giving up a huge chunk of our business and all international deals."

Fact Check: Donald Trump Jr said it in 2019

NEW YORK, NEW YORK - NOVEMBER 02: Donald Trump Jr. and his brother Eric Trump arrive at New York Supreme Court for former President Donald Trump's civil fraud trial on November 02, 2023 in New York City. Trump's children, Donald Jr., Eric and daughter Ivanka, are all expected to testify at their father's trial in the coming days. The former president may be forced to sell off his properties after Justice Engoron canceled his business certificates and ruled that he committed fraud for years while building his real estate empire after being sued by Attorney General Letitia James, seeking $250 million in damages. The trial will determine how much he and his companies will be penalized for the fraud. (Photo by David Dee Delgado/Getty Images)

The claim is true as the quote is correctly attributed to Trump Jr., who wrote those words in his 2019 book, "Triggered: How the Left Thrives on Hate and Wants to Silence Us."

The remark drew backlash from commentators and veterans who criticised the comments at the time of publishing. Social media users have spread the rumor for years, but it resurfaced in late May as Americans observed Memorial Day.

President Trump and Vice President JD Vance paid tribute to America’s fallen service members during an emotional Memorial Day ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery, joining the families of military and veterans in honoring those who died while serving the country.

Despite the ongoing political tensions surrounding foreign policy and military affairs, the Memorial Day event largely remained focused on honoring service members rather than politics, after which attendees applauded as Trump and Vance greeted veterans and relatives of fallen troops following the ceremony.

According to the cemetery’s website, the landmark is described as honoring "those who have served our nation. … This impressive landscape serves as a tribute to the service and sacrifice of every individual laid to rest within these hallowed grounds."
