WASHINGTON, DC: Donald Trump was sworn in as the 47th President of the United States on January 20, and since his second inauguration, he has made several decisions that have made headlines in the past weeks.

Recently, a rumor made its way online claiming that Donald Trump's social media post pledged day-one price cuts on eggs and gas. But is there any truth to this? Let us find out below.

Claim: Donald Trump's post pledged Day 1 price cuts on eggs and gas

Several online users shared an alleged screenshot of a Truth Social post from October 26, 2024, where Trump promised to immediately lower the prices of eggs and gasoline upon taking office.

The screenshot read, "EGGS & GAS PRICES - OUT OF CONTROL!!! Crooked Joe and the radical left DESTROYED affordability for hardworking Americans. It's a TOTAL SCAM! On DAY ONE, I'll SLASH prices—so fast it'll make their heads spin. Big Oil? Big Farms? They'll listen to ME, not lobbyists. NO MORE RIPOFFS!!! MAGA!!!"

Interestingly, the screenshot was shared across different social media platforms such as Facebook, iFunny, Reddit, and X (formerly Twitter) and received thousands of views.

False: The image shared was fake and had no evidence backing the claim

The post shared by social media users is completely fake as Trump's Truth Social account shows no such posts from October 2024, and the screenshot is a fake one, according to Snopes.

Moreover, the post is making rounds across social media in February 2025 and if it had been a genuine post, it would have circulated in October, November, and December last year.

Furthermore, a website named Trump's Truth, which serves as an archive of Trump's Truth Social activity, displayed no record of any such post by the president.

Trump's promises to lowering prices of groceries

Despite the posts shared across social media being fake, Trump had repeatedly pledged during his campaign to begin lowering prices on groceries, gas, and other consumer-related purchases once he took office, per the outlet.

In December 2024, he told NBC News Kristin Welker after his election win, "I won on the border, and I won on groceries. It's a very simple word, groceries, like almost you know, who uses the word? I started using the word. The groceries."

He added, "And I won an election based on that. We're going to bring those prices way down."

In August 2024, Trump held a press conference where he talked about rising consumer prices, including speaking on the costs of groceries and gas.

He said at one point, "When I win. I will immediately bring prices down, starting on Day 1. We will end Kamala's war on American energy and we will drill, baby, drill. We're gonna drill, baby, drill. That's gonna bring down prices of everything because energy brought it up."

He also said, "We're gonna bring prices way down and we get it done, get it done fast."
