LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: A swirling online rumor has reignited public interest in actress and talk show host Drew Barrymore, with claims suggesting she came out as something other than straight in the early months of 2025.

According to Snopes, the speculation has led to a surge in search queries like “Did Drew Barrymore come out in June 2025?” and “Has Drew Barrymore come out as gay?”

It’s worth noting that Barrymore has had previous viral moments on her talk show, including a well-known clip featuring Martha Stewart, in which Stewart appeared to subtly push Barrymore away during an overly close exchange.

Claim: Drew Barrymore came out in June 2025

On June 30, a Facebook page called 'Amazing Story' shared a short video featuring a photo of Drew Barrymore with the caption, "Drew Barrymore has come out."

The accompanying text read, "Drew Barrymore has officially come out — and her announcement has fans emotional." The now-deleted post also included a link in the comments to an article titled, "Drew Barrymore Comes Out—Fans React to Her Bold Truth."

The article began by stating, "Drew Barrymore came out with pride. Barrymore has been in the spotlight for almost her whole life. Barrymore has enthralled audiences for decades with her breakthrough performance in E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial and her prosperous career as an actor, producer, and talk show presenter. She has now come out with pride and opened up about her sexuality."

On July 1, another Facebook page called Epic Explorations shared a similar post featuring Barrymore’s photo, repeating the same emotional caption: "Drew Barrymore has officially come out—and her announcement has fans emotional." This post linked to an article on Stories100 with the headline, "Drew Barrymore Comes Out – Fans React to Her Bold Truth."

Rumor debunked

According to a fact-checking site, the viral rumor that surfaced in 2025 about Drew Barrymore coming out has been proven false for several reasons.

First, the articles attached to the Facebook posts did not include any recent statements from Barrymore about her sexuality. Second, no credible news outlets have reported any such announcement from Barrymore in 2025. If she had made such a declaration, it would have received widespread coverage from reputable entertainment media.

Instead, the linked articles referenced a nearly 22-year-old interview from 2003, in which Barrymore told ContactMusic.com that she identified as bisexual. Upon investigating the origins of the rumor, it was found that in April 2025, a site called IGV published an article titled "Drew Barrymore Has Come Out," which included excerpts from the 2003 interview.

In response to the confusion, IGV told Snopes, “You're absolutely right - on reflection and with context, the headline is misleading, and I can confirm that it was not published as an April Fools' Day joke. It appears that older content was repackaged without adequate context, which likely contributed to the confusion.”

Later, IGV representative Cooke confirmed that all related Facebook posts had been taken down, adding, “We acknowledge the headline was misleading and regret the confusion it caused - that was not our intention. We take full responsibility and are already reviewing our editorial processes and rolling out team training to ensure this doesn't happen again. We're committed to delivering accurate, responsible content and fully recognise the responsibility that comes with that.”
