Fact Check: Did Ellen DeGeneres recently share an official apology video on TikTok?

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: A supposed apology video from Ellen DeGeneres, who was accused of fostering a hostile work environment on 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show' set back in 2020, has recently been circulating on social media.
However, the video was not shared by DeGeneres herself on TikTok and instead uploaded on the account @honestreviews057. It was then reshared on X (formerly Twitter) by the user, @AmericanPapaBear, and has since amassed over 9 million views.

What did Ellen DeGeneres say in the viral 'apology' video?
In the video, Ellen DeGeneres, 67, is seen sitting outdoors wearing a blue shirt. Looking directly at the camera, she said, "I haven’t spoken directly because I don’t know what to say. I am so sad, and am so angry."
"I know I’m not going to say the right thing, I know there are going to be a lot of people who are in disagreement with what I say, but I have a platform and I have a voice and I have always stood for equality," she continued.

"I'm just so sorry that it’s come to this. I really don’t know what to say other than this has gone on way, way, way too long. People have gotten away with murder. That’s what’s happening. We’ve got to see fairness and justice for all because right now, this is not a fair world, not at all," the retired comedian noted.
Ellen DeGeneres' video has been debunked by X's Community Notes
While the video featuring Ellen DeGeneres has led to widespread speculation, the fact that it was never shared on her official TikTok account "@ellendegeneres" hinted that something was off.
The contributed of X's Community Notes clarified that the video was originally posted by DeGeneres in 2020 in support of the Black Lives Matter movement following the murder of George Floyd.

"This video is related to George Floyd’s death. It was posted in 2020 and then deleted. The title 'Ellen’s Apology' was added to this video and was not on the original video," reads the note associated with the clip.
The original video, without the edited "Ellens apology" caption, is still available on her official Instagram account.

It can thus be concluded that DeGeneres hasn't posted any apology video on social media in 2025.
