WASHINGTON, DC: A viral rumor claims that Iran has bribed American politicians to undermine President Donald Trump’s war agenda. The claim further alleges that Iranian officials are working with both Democratic and Republican figures in the United States to sabotage military policy decisions. It also names several lawmakers, including Hakeem Jeffries, Chuck Schumer, and Jamie Raskin, as allegedly receiving payments to support this effort. Here’s a closer fact-check of these allegations.

Claim: Iran bribed US politicians to undermine Trump’s war effort

According to the X user Joshua Hall, an X post alleged Iran bribery involving several US politicians. It began, "IRAN FUNNELING BLOOD MONEY TO US POLITICIANS TO UNDERMINE WAR EFFORT - The Iranian regime is allegedly WORKING HAND IN HAND with top American politicians, BOTH DEMOCRATS AND REPUBLICANS, to attempt to SABOTAGE President Trump's war with a t****rist regime."

It continued, "By paying the TRAITORS MILLIONS OF DOLLARS AND LUXURIOUS PERSONAL GIFTS to push anti-Iran war propaganda, attempt to convince President Trump's top Generals to REFUSE to carry out his orders with respect to the war as well as to vote in favor of the War Powers Resolution in Congress to usurp President Trump's authority to order military action without the blessing of the very traitors who are engaged in this COUP ATTEMPT on behalf of an enemy foreign government that we are currently at war with."

It then listed names, stating, "Prominent politicians on THE IRAN LIST who are receiving these bribes to work for THE ENEMY reportedly include Hakeem Jeffries, Chuck Schumer, Jamie Raskin, Adam Schiff, Mark Kelly, Elissa Slotkin and even RINO Rand Paul. Washington DC is truly A CESSPOOL... This conduct would draw the envy of even the infamous BENEDICT ARNOLD." The post went viral within hours of being shared online, sparking widespread discussion, with some users believing it while others questioned its authenticity.

Fact Check: No evidence found of Iran bribing US politicians

However, the claim that Iran bribed US politicians, including Hakeem Jeffries and Chuck Schumer, is not true. It appears to be an unsubstantiated, conspiracy-style narrative without credible evidence. As of April 2026, there is no indication in mainstream reporting, US Department of Justice investigations, or credible leaks of any direct Iranian payments or gifts to these individuals.

Searches across news sources, congressional records, and fact-checking organizations also show no corroboration of alleged bribes, wire transfers, luxury gifts, or secret funding linked to these politicians in the context of US-Iran tensions.

Notably, Iran is under extensive US and international sanctions, with frozen assets and significant economic restrictions, making large-scale covert political funding highly implausible without traceable channels, intermediaries, or violations of the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA).

Claims that Iran is “funneling millions” to influence multiple senior members of Congress lack supporting documentation, such as financial records, indictments, or verified whistleblower testimony. If credible evidence were to emerge from agencies like the DOJ, FBI, or the intelligence community, the assessment would change. However, based on available information, the claim is not supported and does not align with facts surrounding current US-Iran relations and congressional oversight debates.
