Fact Check: Did Jaxson Dart break a jersey sales record after introducing Trump at a rally?
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Amid the scrutiny following New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart's introduction of President Donald Trump at a rally in New York, a claim began circulating on social media platforms that Dart's jersey broke a sales record after the event with Trump, sparking speculation. Let us analyze and fact-check the viral claim.
Claim: Jaxson Dart broke the record for most NFL jerseys sold after Donald Trump rally
According to the viral claim, Giants QB Jaxson Dart has broken the record for most NFL jerseys sold in 24 hours, with roughly 277,000 jerseys sold. This comes days after introducing Trump at a Fighting For American Workers rally on May 22 in Suffern, New York.
The claim has been shared on multiple social media platforms such as X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, and Instagram, garnering significant views.
While many under the post continued to criticize Dart for his recent association with the president, others supported it. A few remained skeptical and questioned the authenticity of the viral claim.
Fact Check: The claim about Jaxson Dart's jersey setting a record originated as a satire
However, no evidence suggests Dart has broken the record for most NFL jerseys sold in 24 hours. A search on Google and other search engines for the claim yielded no credible reports by prominent news or sports media outlets.
Moreover, the claim was first posted by an X account called NFL Drop, which describes itself in the bio as "satire." Hence, the post was intended as a parody made for the sake of engagement.
A fact check by Grok stated, “The rally intro is real—Jaxson Dart did introduce Trump at a New York event on May 22. The ‘277k jerseys in 24 hours, record breaker' part is from a satire account (TheNFLDrop) and isn’t backed by Fanatics, the NFL, or any credible reporting. No verified sales spike like that has been announced.”
Team leaders urge unity after Donald Trump controversy
The 23-year-old quarterback reportedly held a private team meeting to discuss the reaction to his introduction of Trump, after which he and his teammates agreed to move forward.
Other team leaders, including Brian Burns, Kayvon Thibodeaux, and fellow quarterback Jameis Winston, also addressed the team.
According to ESPN, one of the things discussed at the meeting was keeping issues “internal” rather than sharing grievances publicly.
Ahead of the meeting, offensive lineman Jermaine Eluemunor insisted in an X post that the “Locker Room is fine.”
