WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump's administration's new detention center, famously known as "Alligator Alcatraz," has grabbed attention lately for several reasons. The POTUS himself paid a visit to the site early this week. 

Recently, post claiming that Laura Loomer, a Trump ally and far-right provocateur, made two posts on social media suggesting detainees at "Alligator Alcatraz" would be fed to alligators have gone viral. But is there any truth to this? Let us find out below.

Claim: Laura Loomer shared posts about 'feeding illegals' to alligators

In July 2025, internet users shared screenshots of two X (formerly Twitter) posts by Laura Loomer that called for feeding "illegals" to alligators.

The posts were allegedly referencing the formation of the new immigration detention center in the Florida Everglades.

The screenshots of the alleged posts circulated across social media platforms such as Instagram and YouTube.

The first screenshot read, "Alligator Alcatraz. Feeding illegals to the gators. We need more of this energy."

Similarly, the other alleged post by Loomer read, "Alligator lives matter. The good news is, alligators are guaranteed at least 65 million meals if we get started now."

Fact Check: Laura Loomer did make the posts about 'feeding illegals' to alligators on X

The claims about Laura Loomer are true, as the controversia MAGA firebrand did make these posts from her official X account, Snopes reported.

She made the first post on June 30, while the other post was made on July 1.



 



 

Meanwhile, the first group of immigrant detainees was scheduled to arrive at the center on July 2.

Florida's Attorney General James Uthmeier wrote on X on the same day, "Alligator Alcatraz will be checking in hundreds of criminal illegal aliens tonight. Next stop: back to where they came from."



 

About her X post where Loomer mentioned feeding alligators 65 million meals, many speculated that she was talking about the entire Hispanic population of the US, which was around 65 million in July 2023.

Laura Loomer responded to the accusations, saying she was referring to 65 million "illegal aliens."

She wrote in an X post, "There 100% are 65 million illegal aliens living in the US. We have been told 20 million illegals are living in the US since Ronald Reagan was President in the 1980s. Another 20 million (at least) came in under Joe Biden. Add in all of the illegals who came in under Clinton, Bush and Obama as well."



 

She added, "Now add all of their kids. Those people reproduce like rabbits. Add in the 2 million got aways under Biden. The real number ends up being close to 65 million. We literally have 65 million illegals in the US. Do the math."



 

Regarding her post about "feeding illegals" to alligators, she wrote, "What’s wrong with feeding the alligators?"
