Fact check: Did Melania and Barron Trump open 'free hospital' for homeless people?
WASHINGTON, DC: In February 2026, a rumor circulated online claiming that First Lady Melania Trump and her son, Barron Trump, opened a free hospital for homeless people in Los Angeles.
As per the rumor, there was no ribbon ceremony when the inauguration took place in the quiet 'morning hours before dawn'. But is there any truth to this? Let us find out below.
Claim: Melania and Barron Trump opened 'free hospital' for homeless people
A Facebook page titled 'Gaviur Textil' posted the claim alongside a grid image featuring Melania and Barron Trump, what seemed to be a mock-up of a building, and an image of people sleeping on the ground under newspapers.
The caption read, "MELANIA TRUMP & BARRON TRUMP OPEN THE NATION’S FIRST FULLY FREE HOSPITAL FOR THE HOMELESS IN QUIET PRE-DAWN HOURS — 'THIS IS THE LEGACY WE CHOOSE TO LEAVE'. No applause. No ribbon ceremony. Only two doors open at 5 am."
The caption further mentioned that Barron and Melania 'silently opened the doors of the Melania–Barron Trump Legacy Medical Center — a 250-bed hospital providing lifelong, no-cost care exclusively for unhoused individuals, widely regarded as unprecedented in the United States.'
"Inside are cancer treatment facilities, emergency trauma operating rooms, psychiatric units, addiction detox and recovery services, full dental care, and 120 permanent housing units located above the medical floors. All services are free. Without exception," the caption mentioned.
Other social media users further shared the rumor.
Fact check: False, no credible evidence to back the claim
The claims made in the online rumors are false, as there is no credible evidence to prove that Melania and Barron Trump opened a free hospital for homeless people in Los Angeles.
The Facebook posts featured links in top comments that led to advertisement-filled articles hosted by Metaconex blogs, and not reputable news media outlets.
Furthermore, searches on search engines such as Bing, DuckDuckGo, Google, and Yahoo for the alleged 'Melania–Barron Trump Legacy Medical Center' days later showed no credible news media outlets reporting on it.
Moreover, the 'Gaviur Textil' account showed several examples of images and text that were generated using artificial intelligence software. For the image of Melania and Barron Trump, online AI detectors Hive Moderation and Sightengine found a higher-than 70% probability that it was 'likely' AI-generated.
The purported Melania Trump in the picture also looked different from authentic pictures of the first lady from early 2026.
Similarly, ZeroGPT, an online AI detector for text, showed AI was '100%' likely to have written parts of the ad-filled story that various Facebook pages linked to.
