Fact Check: Did Rashida Tlaib urge Hamas supporters to 'mobilize and take over America'?
WASHINGTON, DC: In late November, a rumor spread across social media claiming that during a 2025 speech in Detroit, Representative Rashida Tlaib publicly called for Hamas supporters to mobilize and take over America.
But is there any truth to this claim? Let’s break it down below.
Claim: Rashida Tlaib called for Hamas supporters to mobilize and take over America
Viral posts circulating online asserted that Rep Rashida Tlaib had called on supporters of Hamas, a Palestinian militant group designated as a terrorist organization by the US government, to "mobilize and take over America."
The claim originated from Tlaib's speech delivered toward the end of the "2025 People's Conference for Palestine" in Detroit, hosted by a group of Palestinian organizations between August 29 and 31, 2025.
The post was shared by the @Real_Ames account on December 1, 2025, which showed Tlaib's picture with the caption: "Rep Rashida Tlaib calls for Hamas supporters to mobilize and take over America. She said she hates that she works in a building for a country that was built on slavery, genocide, r**e and oppression."

Reports of her comments began spreading across social media in the following months, with a noticeable increase in posts in late November 2025.
Meanwhile, another post on Facebook shared by @DavidJHarrisJr claimed the same rumor with the same caption.
Fact Check: False, no evidence to back the viral claim
The claim is false, as the video of Tlaib's speech on YouTube shows otherwise. At no point in her speech did Tlaib urge supporters of Hamas to "mobilize and take over America."
Instead, Tlaib’s speech called for members of the public who oppose the acts of the Israeli military in Gaza to "mobilize." It may be noted that Tlaib and many experts, including the United Nations and Amnesty International, have described those acts as a genocide. The claim spread among pro-Israel social media users, who frequently equate support for Palestine with support for the militant Palestinian group Hamas, which is designated as a terrorist organization in the US.
Watermarks for Canary Mission, an anonymously run website described by the New York Times as engaged in the "doxing" of people and organizations as it considers to "promote hatred of the USA, Israel and Jews," appeared in many clips of Tlaib’s speech.
According to NYT, many of those featured on the Canary site are "students and college professors who have been active in campus protests against Israeli government policies."
Meanwhile, The People's Conference for Palestine is a yearly convention for activists and organizations to strategize and build a mass movement for Palestinian liberation in North America. It is a grassroots initiative led by members of the Palestinian diaspora and solidarity activists, who coordinate, share knowledge, and plan future campaigning.
