Fact Check: Did Todd Blanche accuse Jon Ossoff of being complicit in rigging 2020 election?
WASHINGTON, DC: Amid controversies surrounding alleged election rigging, a claim began circulating on social media platforms that Attorney General Todd Blanche has accused Georgia Senator Jon Ossoff of being involved in the alleged rigging of the 2020 election, sparking speculation. Let us analyze and fact-check the claim’s authenticity.
Claim: Todd Blanche tied Jon Ossoff to alleged 2020 election rigging
According to the viral claim, Blanche said "the newly uncovered ties between the Antifa outlet in Atlanta, responsible for rigging the 2020 election, and Senator Ossoff have to be explored."
"Senator Ossoff may have been complicit in rigging the election that sent him to Congress," Blanche allegedly said, "His connections to high-level operatives may be how he got on the ballot in the first place."
The post further claimed that Ossoff came out of nowhere in 2020 and took 59 percent of the vote, most of it coming by mail the next day.
According to the post, Blanche said Ossoff is just one of many that the Justice Department is targeting for "the greatest heist of all time."
The claim has spread on X and Facebook, with those who engaged with the post appearing to believe it was real, while a few others dismissed it as fake, prompting a fact-check.
Fact Check: The claim originated as a satire
The claim, however, is fake as there is no credible evidence that the acting Attorney General made such a statement about the Democratic senator.
A search on Google for the claim yielded no reliable reports by prominent news media outlets, which, if true, would have been widely covered.
Moreover, the claim originated from a popular Facebook parody account called "America’s Last Line Of Defense," which describes itself in the bio as “Noting on this page is real.”
Todd Blanche's Attorney General nomination sparks Democratic backlash
The claim surfaced after President Donald Trump recently said that he will nominate Blanche to serve as the permanent Attorney General, elevating his former personal lawyer to lead the Justice Department permanently pending Senate confirmation.
The announcement drew quick criticism from Democratic lawmakers who argued that Blanche has acted more as an advocate for Trump than as an independent law enforcement official.
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries declared Blance unfit for the role.
Senator Ossoff expressed his opposition, saying, “There is no world in which Todd Blanche could earn my vote. As far as I'm concerned, he should resign. Todd Blanche is a crony. Todd Blanche is a loyalist. He has no business as the nation's top law enforcement official.”
