Fact Check: Did Trump cancel Pride Month to declare June as Confidence Month?
WASHINGTON, DC: Amid the geopolitical tensions with Iran, a rumor has been circulating on social media platforms claiming that President Donald Trump has canceled Pride Month and declared June as the Confidence Month instead, calling it a ‘sin.’
The claim has sparked questions about its authenticity. Let us analyse and fact-check the claim.
Claim: Donald Trump declares June as Confidence Month, cancelling Pride Month
The claim was accompanied by a video of the president in which he states, “It is with great pleasure that I’m announcing that Pride Month is cancelled."
He said, "Pride is a sin, and we will no longer participate in deliberate moral inversions. Instead, June will be known as Confidence Month, or maybe just June.”
The video that appeared on X has garnered more than three hundred thousand views, and the comments under the post suggest that most social media users believe it to be true, while some questioned its authenticity.
Fact Check: Donald Trump did not make such a declaration
The claim is false as there are no official reports or statements from the president or from his administration. The video that accompanied the claim is a deepfake and has been manipulated using AI.
A search on Google for the claim reveals that the video first surfaced in 2025 in an X post by user Maverick Alexander, whose bio states mostly share satire.
The last frame of the original video includes a disclaimer that reads, "This is a deepfake, but let people dream."
Several inconsistencies in the video also indicate it has been manipulated using AI, including a slight misalignment between the audio and Trump's lip movements.
A reverse image search of the clip matched a YouTube video posted by the Trump White House on April 13, 2025, wishing Jewish people a happy Passover holiday. Nowhere in the video does Trump mention Pride month or the LGBTQ community.
Tennessee declares June as Nuclear Family Month
The video resurfaced as Tennessee Governor Bill Lee signed a resolution declaring June as Nuclear Family Month as an alternative to LGBTQ+ Pride Month.
The House Joint Resolution 182 was signed by the Republican Governor on April 9, after it passed the House in April 2025 and the Senate last month.
The legislation highlights the importance of celebrating the traditional family unit, described as "consisting of one husband, one wife, and any biological, adopted, or fostered children."
"The nuclear family is under attack in our beloved State and nation, and it is our responsibility to uplift, protect, and support values that help Tennessee prosper," the resolution adds.
