Fact Check: Did Trump recruit Elon Musk to investigate the Minnesota fraud case?
WASHINGTON, DC: Amid the controversies surrounding the Minnesota fraud case, a rumor began circulating on social media platforms claiming that President Donald Trump had recruited Elon Musk and the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to investigate the case, sparking speculation.
Let us analyze and fact-check the authenticity of the claim.
Claim: Trump recruits Elon Musk to investigate Minnesota fraud case
According to the claim that surfaced on X, Trump is tasking Elon Musk and DOGE with taking over the entire Minnesota Medicaid fraud case and finally bringing the truth to light.
“We know there are numerous government officials involved,” Trump allegedly told reporters, “including the communist Tim Walz and corrupt Ilhan Omar.”
The post claims that Trump trusts Elon more than anyone in this matter and allegedly said, “He knows how to do the job better than anyone.”
The post further stated that the “Minnesota Medicaid scam that’s been bleeding taxpayers dry for years is about to get the full Musk treatment, and the radical left’s favorite fraudsters in the state are sweating bullets right now.”
Fact Check: The claim originated as a satire
However, there is no evidence that the president appointed the Tesla CEO or DOGE to investigate the alleged Minnesota fraud case. There are also no reports of Donald Trump making the above statements to reporters.
A Google search for the claim yielded no credible reports supporting it, which, if true, would likely have been widely covered by major news outlets.
Ever since the feud between Trump and Musk, it appears unlikely that Trump would assign such a task to Musk.
Moreover, a Google search also revealed that the post originated from a popular Facebook account called ‘America's Last Line of Defense,’ which states in its bio, ‘Nothing on this page is real.’
Hence, the post was intended as satire, and there have been no new developments in the case as of this writing.
Ilhan Omar camp faces scrutiny in fraud probe
The post likely surfaced as Rep Ilhan Omar’s camp faces backlash after one of her former top staffers defended her against allegations tied to the massive Feeding Our Future scandal while blaming Tim Walz and President Donald Trump for the fallout.
The controversy escalated after Fox News Digital obtained an email sent by former District Director Kendal Killian to Minnesota House Fraud Prevention and State Agency Oversight Committee Chair Kristin Robbins.
Omar has not publicly responded to the committee’s requests for information tied to the investigation and missed a May 5 deadline to provide records.
