‘Trump is tired of the war’: Ally describes POTUS’s frustration with prolonged Iran conflict
WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump is reportedly growing increasingly frustrated with the drawn-out conflict in Iran, with allies and advisers describing a president ‘bored’ and eager to declare victory, avoid another endless Middle East war, and move on to other priorities.
According to a report by The Atlantic circulating among Trump-world insiders, the president has become impatient with the pace and complexity of the Iran conflict after initially expecting a quicker resolution.
Trump reportedly wants Iran conflict wrapped up quickly
One senior White House official quoted in recent reporting said, ‘Trump really, really wants the war with Iran to end.’
“Trump never thought it would turn out like this,” the piece begins.
“After the impressive military operation to snatch Nicolás Maduro from Caracas, the president set his eyes on Iran, telling confidants that it would ‘be another Venezuela,’ a pair of outside advisers told me.”
Despite continuing military operations, Trump has repeatedly signaled that he would prefer a negotiated settlement over a prolonged war.
The Atlantic reported that the raid gave Trump the impression that the US military was “unstoppable” and that toppling the Islamic Republic of Iran was a real possibility.
The outlet's report comes after disclosures that the US intelligence has assessed that Iran can withstand the ongoing US blockade of the country for at least three or four months. That blockade followed Iran’s restrictions on travel through the key Strait of Hormuz, which carries 20% of the world’s oil.
“Patience is not Trump’s strength. One outside adviser, who speaks with him regularly, told me the president is 'bored' with the war.”
Supporters of the president argue the reports reinforce Trump’s broader 'America First' worldview, which has long rejected open-ended foreign conflicts associated with previous administrations.
Trump ‘reluctant’ to resume fighting
The piece further stated that Trump is “reluctant” to resume fighting, notwithstanding Thursday’s exchange of fire between the US and Iran.
Since the war began on Feb. 28, the national average for a gallon of gas has surged to $4.55 a gallon, as of Friday.
“And while Trump at times feels detached from the political concerns of his party, Republicans have been inundated with complaints about rising prices, particularly at the gas pump.”
“Many in the GOP were already preparing themselves to lose the House; the longer the war goes on, they believe, the more likely it is that the Senate could flip too.”
“And so Trump keeps issuing deadlines to force Iran to cave, but Tehran keeps calling his bluff,” The Atlantic added.
“For weeks now, Trump has blustered about resuming attacks, but each time, he has found a way to back down. With the exception of a few hawkish voices, most in Trump’s orbit remain reluctant to restart the attack even as the stalemate continues.”
Many Trump allies maintain the president’s focus remains on pressuring Iran into a deal rather than committing to another decade-long military entanglement.
