WASHINGTON, DC: Former President Joe Biden's tenure ended in January 2025 and during his time as the POTUS, he faced several ups and downs and was often criticized for his decisions by critics.

Days before his departure as the president, Biden posted on X (formerly Twitter) that his administration had been the only one in history to create jobs every month. But is there any truth to this? Let us find out below.

Claim: Biden's administration created jobs every month during his tenure as president

Joe Biden's administration X account made a post on January 10 stating, "With today’s report of 256,000 new jobs in December, we've created over 16.6 million jobs during my administration – the only in history to have created jobs every single month."

The statement added, "Despite inheriting an economic crisis, we built back our economy from the middle out and bottom up."

The post received around 903K views and more than 5k users commented on it as many people called the claim to be false.

A comment read, "In approximately 1 month from now, we will learn that it is a false report," while one added, "You didn't do a damn thing."

A person added, "Every jobs report gets downgraded the following month. Nobody believes that BS!!!" whereas one wrote, "And like every month, they will walk it back next week."

True: Evidence backs claim made by Biden administration

The claim made in the X post by the Biden administration is true as the former president's administration was the first since records began under which the economy added new jobs every month, according to Snopes.

A chart by the Saint Louis Federal Reserve revealed that based on data from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics since it began to track employment data in 1939, Joe Biden's administration was the first under which the economy added new jobs every month between 2021-2025, as per the fact-checking outlet.

Proof: Stats show more jobs were created during Biden administration

During former President Bill Clinton's administration, under which the economy added 23 million jobs over eight years, the economy lost jobs in certain months, according to Snopes.

According to the data, it lost 44,000 jobs in March 1993 and 18,000 jobs in May 1995.

Meanwhile, during the Biden administration, the data showed new jobs were created in the US economy every month.

However, it must be noted that presidential administrations may not have control over private companies if they hire more people.

Notably, as government jobs showed a major portion of jobs in the economy when Biden left office, which was 14.8 percent, the proportion of government jobs compared to the larger economy had dropped from when Donald Trump first took office in 2017, which was 15.3 percent, according to BLS data on government jobs.

Furthermore, the US economy added jobs at an unprecedented rate during the first part of Biden's mandate but around 9 million of them were due to a "catch-up effect" that followed massive job losses during the Covid-19 pandemic and was started during Trump's first run, according to Snopes.
