Fact Check: Is the photo showing Melania Trump and Ghislaine Maxwell with unidentified girls real?
WASHINGTON, DC: Following the recent release of a massive tranche of documents related to convicted s*x offender Jeffrey Epstein, a photo has been circulating on social media allegedly showing First Lady Melania Trump standing alongside Epstein associate Ghislaine Maxwell and three unidentified girls.
The image has gone viral across multiple platforms, with users suggesting it was part of the newly released Epstein files. Let us verify the image’s authenticity.
Claim: Image shows Melania Trump with Ghislaine Maxwell
Days after the release of millions of Epstein-related files, a photo began circulating online claiming to show Melania Trump posing with Maxwell and three other women or girls whose identities were allegedly redacted.
One post on X stated, “The first girl to the left is actually Melania, the First Lady of the United States, with a group of other Eastern European girls imported by Epstein for wealthy Americans.”
The same image was widely shared on other social media platforms, including Facebook and Bluesky, with similar claims.
Fact Check: Image is not part of newly released Epstein files
There is no evidence that the photo originated from the latest documents released by the Department of Justice on January 30. Major news organizations have also not published any such image in their reporting on the newly released records.
Analysis of the image using artificial intelligence detection tools such as Hive Moderation and Sightengine indicated that the photo was unlikely to be entirely AI-generated. However, experts note that this does not rule out digital manipulation.
It remains possible that Melania Trump’s face was digitally altered or superimposed onto another person’s body.
Visual inconsistencies further raise doubts about the image’s authenticity. The women’s arms appear to have noticeably different skin tones compared to their chins and foreheads, suggesting potential photo editing or compositing.
A reverse image search did not lead to any credible source publishing the photograph. The highest-quality version of the image was first found on January 30 as a YouTube video thumbnail titled “Melania’s email is in the Epstein files and it’s bad..” The channel hosting the video has a history of posting AI-generated content.
Why the image gained attention
The photo surfaced amid heightened public interest following the release of millions of additional pages of records connected to Epstein by the Department of Justice.
Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche said the release included more than 2,000 videos and 180,000 images.
The disclosure followed weeks of criticism that the department was not complying with a federal law passed in November requiring all Epstein-related files to be made public by December 19.
Among the newly released materials is an FBI compilation of allegations involving Trump, many of which appear to be based on unverified tips rather than substantiated evidence.
