The claim surfaced on X as the tensions between the US, Israel, and Iran has escalted with both sides exchanging missile fire.
The claim posted by an account called ‘Emerald Fennel Updates’ came with a caption stating, “Kevin Spacey has been killed by an Iranian missile in Tel Aviv,’ and has garnered more than seven million views with tens of thousands of likes and shares.
Those commenting under the post even appeared to believe the claim to be authentic, while some expressed skepticism.
The post even cited ‘Deadline’ magazine as the source for the viral claim.
Fact Check: The claim is fake news
However, the claim is false as the post possibly meant it as a satire. Similar such unverified claims have been posted on the account before for the sake of engagement.
A search on the official site of Deadline magazine, which allegedly reported the claim, yielded no results.
A Google search for relevant keywords also does not yield any credible results that support the claim, which, if true, would have been reported by prominent news media outlets.
A fact check by Grok, the AI assistant of X debunkied the claim, stating, “No, this is not true. It's a hoax. Kevin Spacey is alive, recent reports (as of Feb 28) cover his ongoing legal cases, including House of Cards disputes."
"Deadline has no article on any missile incident or death. The images are just his photo + unrelated explosion footage. Classic fake news post.”
Iran missile strikes escalate Middle East tensions amid US conflict
The rumor coincided with a series of missile strikes launched by Iran on February 28, 2026, targeting Israeli sites and multiple US military bases in the Middle East.
According to Iran’s semi-official Fars News Agency, the strikes hit the headquarters of the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet in Bahrain, as well as major bases, including Qatar’s Al Udeid Air Base and Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait.
The missile attacks followed US and Israeli military operations in Iran, heightening regional tensions and fueling speculation online.
