Fact Check: Was Taylor Swift nominated by Pope Leo for Nobel Peace Prize?

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Pop icon Taylor Swift has a huge fan base across the globe, and her fans, popularly known as "Swifties," are known to back the songstress through highs and lows. She is also known for her philanthropic work and donations toward better causes.
Recently, a rumor circulated online claiming that the pop icon was nominated by Pope Leo XIV for the Nobel Peace Prize. But is there any truth to this rumor? Let us find out below.
Claim: Taylor Swift was nominated by Pope Leo XIV for Nobel Peace Prize
In July 2025, a rumor circulated online claiming that Pope Leo nominated Taylor Swift for the Nobel Peace Prize. The claim quickly spread across social media platforms such as X and Threads.
One user wrote on X on July 20: "BREAKING: Taylor Swift’s efforts to aid war victims in Israel, Iran, Ukraine, Gaza, and Texas flood relief efforts lead to praise from Pope Leo XIV, nominating her for the Nobel Peace Prize along with Greta Thunberg, Dr Mahrang Baloch, Selena Gomez, and Volodymyr Zelenskyy."

Similarly, a Threads user posted: "BREAKING: After Taylor Swift’s major donations to war victims in Iran, Israel, Ukraine, Gaza, and additional support for Texas Hill Country flood victims, Pope Leo XIV stuns the world, nominates her, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and Chef Jose Andres for the Nobel Peace Prize."

Interestingly, both posts linked to an article from an outlet called USAmidia.
Fact Check: False, no credible evidence to back the claim
The claims made in the online rumor are false, as there is no credible evidence that Pope Leo nominated Taylor Swift for the Nobel Peace Prize.
The article by USAmidia alleged that the pope made the announcement during “a public address from the Vatican,” but this claim is entirely unsubstantiated. No reputable news outlets reported any such statement or event.
Searches across platforms like Google, Bing, and DuckDuckGo yielded no official results or coverage. If such a major announcement had occurred, it would have been reported widely by Vatican correspondents and international media outlets.

Moreover, the timeline makes the claim impossible: the deadline to nominate individuals for the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize was January 31, 2025, while Pope Leo was elected in May 2025, months after the cutoff.
The official Nobel Peace Prize website clearly states: “None of the Nobel Committees announce the names of nominees, neither to the media nor to the candidates themselves,” and “the complete list of eligible nominees of any year's prizes is not disclosed for another 50 years.”

Additionally, Media Bias/Fact Check rated USAmidia as a “questionable source” with “very low” factual reporting.
The site has been described as a “clickbait entertainment site that publishes sensationalist and often false news with no transparency and no editorial accountability.”
Travis Kelce, Taylor Swift overtake NFL's power couple in rankings
Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce and pop icon Taylor Swift reached a new milestone by surpassing one of the NFL’s most beloved couples, Kelce’s teammate Patrick Mahomes and his wife Brittany, in Bleacher Report’s list of the 'Top 10 Celebrity Power Couples in the Sports World.'
In the recently released ranking, fans were surprised to find Patrick and Brittany excluded, while Kelce and Swift secured the third spot.

The report stated, “On paper, it's a blockbuster crossover: the world’s most streamed pop star links up with a Super Bowl-winning tight end who suddenly started speaking like he spent a semester abroad in a Swiftie group chat.”
“Swift brings chart-topping anthems and a global fanbase. Kelce brings touchdowns, charm, and an oddly timed code-switch once he paired with Swift,” it added.
