Her family was unaware that Alex Murdaugh, a South Carolina attorney and a double-murderer, had settled a wrongful death claim on their behalf and stolen the money.

After her death, Alex Murdaugh offered to help Satterfield’s family sue his homeowners insurance providers. “He was just looking out for the boys because he thought a lot of Gloria...," Gloria’s younger sister Ginger Hadwin told the publication.

She said Alex was there to show them the "appreciatation" for the years Gloria had shown love taking care of his family.

“Every now and then, he would reach out and see how we were doing,” said Tony, adding “And kind of update us and say, ‘It’s a hard case, we’re still working on it. Time’s on your side.’”

However, Murdaugh had secretly settled the case for more than $4 million and pocketed the money which he never inforemd them about. The family learned about the settlement in 2021 after his arrest in murders of hos wife and son. “It made me sick to my stomach,” Tony told the outlet.

Alex Murdaugh pleaded guilty to 22 financial crimes

In November, Murdaugh pleaded guilty to 22 financial crimes and was sentenced to 27 years in prison. He was already serving life without parole for the murders. He is a “fraudster and a liar and a thief,” Satterfield family attorney Eric Bland told People.

“He hit the home run as a double-murderer and he should be on the Mount Rushmore of all criminals," Bland added. Ginger, too, said she was overwhelmed by the damage he caused to many people.

Gloria Satterfield would have done anything for Alex Murdaugh if he had asked her

“I not only felt the pain of my family, of being betrayed, I felt the pain of the other family members that were betrayed by Alex,” she said.

“He took advantage of victims that go to work every day, just like Gloria. She got up at the crack of dawn and she would go to work and work all day. And some days she didn’t return until nightfall and worked very hard for what little bit of money she did make to try to make ends meet," she added.

She said Gloria would have done anything for Alex if he had asked her.

“Gloria would’ve given Alex anything she had,” Ginger further said.

“If Alex would’ve asked her for whatever she would’ve given the shirt off her back to help him. You can’t have a soul to do what he did. He’s a shell of a man," she continued.
