LONDON, ENGLAND: David Gilmour, the legendary guitarist and vocalist of Pink Floyd, is preparing to launch his first solo album in nearly a decade.

The forthcoming album, ‘Luck and Strange’, is slated for release on September 6 via Sony Music, marking his first solo work since ‘Rattle That Lock’ in 2015.

Fans can expect a sneak peek of the album soon, with the first teaser track, ‘The Piper’s Call’, set to drop on DSPs on Thursday, April 25. A music video for the track is also scheduled for release the following Friday, April 26.

Gilmour has already shared a brief glimpse into the making of the album on YouTube, showing him and his dog in the studio during the mixing process.

"Hello, Wesley. What are you up to?" said Gilmour to his German shepherd dog.

He then asks himself, "What am I doing?" and answers the question by stating, "I am on the couple of days mixing for the new album Luck and Strange. Coming out on September the 6th."

David Gilmour's album has generous contributions from various artists

The album ‘Luck and Strange’ will feature a total of nine tracks, eight of which are original compositions and one is a rendition of the Montgolfier Brothers’ song ‘Between Two Points’.

The album boasts contributions from a variety of musicians, including bassists Guy Pratt and Tom Herbert, drummers Adam Betts, Steve Gadd, and Steve DiStanislao, keyboardists Rob Gentry and Roger Eno, and Will Gardner on strings and choral arrangements.

The album was recorded and co-produced by Gilmour and Charlie Andrew (known for his work with alt-J, Marika Hackman, and Wolf Alice) over five months in Brighton and London, UK.

The majority of the lyrics were crafted by Gilmour’s wife, author Polly Samson, a longtime collaborator.

“It’s written from the point of view of being older; mortality is the constant,” she shared in a statement, according to Variety.

Gilmour further added, “We spent a load of time during and after lockdown talking about and thinking about those kind of things.”

Their son Charlie lent his lyrical prowess to the track ‘Scattered', while their daughter Romany showcased her musical talents by playing the harp and providing lead vocals on ‘Between Two Points’.

Their other son Gabriel also contributed backing vocals. These collaborations were born out of the family’s live streams during the Covid-19 lockdown, where they humorously referred to themselves as the Von Trapped Family, as reported by Exclaim.
