Fans over the moon as Sofia Richie announces birth of first child, reveals daughter's 'precious' name in heartfelt post

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Sofia Richie took to Instagram to announce the news of becoming a mother for the first time.

The model, who tied the knot with British record executive Elliot Grainge in April 2023, confirmed her pregnancy as well as disclosed that they're about to be parents of a baby girl during a January interview with Vogue.

On Friday, May 24, Richie took to Instagram to post a black-and-white photo of her daughter's tiny feet, cradled in a pair of hands.

She disclosed the child's name and birthdate in the caption, writing, "Eloise Samantha Grainge 🤍5•20•24 best day of my life🤍."

The name, Eloise, has French, German, Teutonic, and American roots, meaning "famous in war," as per SheKnows. The second part of her name, Samantha, has Aramaic, Hebrew, and American origins, and typically means a "listener."

Richie's Instagram post was flooded with comments containing blessings and compliments on the name the couple chose for their baby. 

One wrote, "A Taurus-Gemini cusp baby born during the most magical week 🥹🤍✨Congratulations!! Her name is so so precious 😭." Another said, "So so happy for you mama 🤍 I’m so excited for you to experience this beautiful chapter! And her name is perfection 🪽."

"As an Eloïse, I can only approve of this magnificent choice of name 🥹💕," expressed a person. 

One more shared, "Oh my gosh, so precious!! Congratulations 🥹💕. I hope you are feeling well 🤗. As a mama to 3 girls I can tell you being a girl mom is the best thing that ever happened to me 🥲. Enjoy the newborn snuggles 🥰"

Sofia Richie's dream in life was to have a daughter

While speaking to Vogue in January, Richie confirmed her pregnancy and disclosed that they're expecting a girl, saying, "She’s growing pretty fast, so [the due date] is a bit up in the air."

The model added, "I love the YouTubes and the TikToks—even before I was talking about getting pregnant—of gender reveals, so we had our OB text my assistant Becca [our baby’s gender], and we bought two party poppers: one blue, one pink."

"She left out the one with the correct color inside, and Elliot and I popped it together. We both really thought it was a boy, so it was a true shock. My dream in life is to have a daughter [though], and Elliot is really excited for a girl too," further noted Richie. 

She also took to Instagram to share the news of her pregnancy. Attaching a black-and-white picture of herself and her husband, Richie wrote, "And then there were three 🤍."
