LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Russell Brand has disputed claims made by a woman who accused him of sexually abusing her on the sets of 2010 movie 'Arthur' while drunk.

In court documents, the actor and spiritual commentator said the woman, who was an extra in the movie, had a "faulty memory" of what transpired and was "unable to distinguish acting from reality."

The woman, referred to as Jane Doe in court documents, accused the comedian and actor in a November 2023 legal lawsuit of assaulting her and exposing himself while they were filming 'Arthur' in 2010.

Brand's attorneys further said the allegation is "premised on the false claim" that Brand was noticeably drunk at the time. They asserted that while the actor was portraying a drunk role, he was sober in real life, per BBC News.

Russell Brand's attorney claims acusser had 'faulty memory of the events'

The comedian is accused of exposing himself to the woman in July 2010 at the Le Cirque restaurant in New York while they were filming 'Arthur.'

Jane Doe further stated that on the same day she was assaulted in a restroom by the actor-turned-political commentator, with production employees watching over the door.

In response to the accusations made in the civil complaint filed in November 2023, Brand filed that he does not remember speaking to the woman or recognizing her,

Jane Doe has claimed that Brand "appeared intoxicated, smelled of alcohol and was carrying a bottle of vodka on set."

Brand's attorney claimed that Brand played an inebriated millionaire named Arthur Bach in the movie. He further maintains that he was sober at the time and that it was his "job to act drunk."

His legal documents stated: "Famously, the character, Arthur Bach, originally played by Dudley Moore in the 1981 comedy, Arthur, is a drunk."

"Brand, an actor and comedian, played the same role in the 2010 remake. While Brand's job was to act drunk and portray a drunk the film, he did not drink a sip of alcohol or consume any drugs at any time during production."

Furthermore, according to Brand's attorney, the "open alcohol bottle" was a prop for the movie.

The woman's "faulty memory of the events she alleged in her complaint - more than 13 years after they supposedly happened - is fatal to her claims", read the statement.

According to his attorneys, Brand had abstained from drugs and alcohol for around eight years when the filming began.

Jane Doe claimed to be 'used and abused'

In 2023, the woman told the Sunday Times that she felt "disgusting" following the alleged incident. She remarked, "I felt used and abused. Disgusting is the only word. I felt like I was being used, that I was just an object for his momentary titillation."

Due to the alleged sexual abuse, the woman says she "suffered and continues to suffer extreme embarrassment, shame and fear" and now finds it "difficult to trust others."

She stated that she is coming forward in the hopes that other people who have gone through similar experiences would find the courage to do the same.

In addition to these accusations, Brand — who was engaged to singer Katy Perry at the time — has been accused of several other wrongdoings, including rape and emotional assault between 2006 and 2013. However, he has denied all of these allegations, per Daily Mail.
