WASHINGTON, DC: Bill Barr has spoken against Donald Trump’s conviction in the hush money trial and claimed that the case “will be overturned.”

The former President was found guilty on May 30 after it was proved that he falsified his business records to give $130,000 to an ex-porn star in order to buy her silence about a sex scandal just before the 2016 election.

His sentencing will be on July 11 but he can appeal it, as reported by Reuters.

Donald Trump slammed his conviction

Trump said after the verdict, “If they can do this to me, they can do this to anyone. We're going to be appealing this scam.”

Barr echoed similar feelings as he told Fox News host Jimmy Failla, “When people were talking about it, I said that the case was an abomination, and I didn't think it was going to be brought at the end of the day because it was so vaporous.”

He continued, “I was surprised they went ahead with it… it was an abomination. And everyone's talked about that."

“But you think about, how are the American people going to react in a very close election if Trump loses and this case is overturned - which it will be, this case will be overturned,” he added.

Bill Barr says Trump’s guilty verdict is ‘unfair to the voter’

The former Attorney General also mentioned how the May 30 court ruling would affect Trump’s race for the White House.

He stated, “It's unfair to the voter. And, you know, the co-conspirator in all of this is the mainstream media. Yeah. Who will not talk about the issues or give honest reports on anything.”

Barr further stated, “I think the Justice Department knows that the facts alleged in this case would not have constituted a federal campaign violation,” before adding, “If they keep this gag order on them. Again, it's unprecedented and crazy that you have a major candidate who can't defend himself.”

Netizens share mixed responses over Bill Barr’s statement

Meanwhile, people have shared their thoughts on Barr’s remarks as a person wrote on X, “Dude is definitely going to jail now. Barr is an idiot. Man has zero concept of the current playing field. These are socialists they do whatever they want.”

Another tweeted, “Barr in many ways is far worse than Trump. He used his position to enable Trump to tear down our democracy system.”

“Which side of the fence does this man sit on? He is for and against, always flip-flopping and speaking from the side of his face,” a third user remarked.

A fourth stated, “They say it’s unprecedented to convict a former Pres., of course, it is because it’s unprecedented to have a past President do what Trump has done.”

“Bill Barr was not a good Attorney General! He hid things from Trump. He betrayed Trump!” a fifth user added.

An individual alleged, “From the mouth of a traitor - trying to garner favor?”

“Bill Barr should be IGNORED. Not worth listening to,” another said.

“Barr's a reliable source, huh? I mean, he did cover up for Trump's Ukraine shenanigans, after all. Anyway, even if his prediction comes true, it won't change the fact that Trump's actions were still shady as hell,” a tweet read.

Meanwhile, a person commenting below the Fox News article mentioned, “Of course, the charges are bogus, it may take some time, but they will 100% be overturned.”

Another wrote, “Unfortunately, if it is overturned AFTER the election and Trump does not win, there's nothing that can be done. It is the same case as prior to the 2020 election when the Hunter Biden laptop story broke. "

“The media denied its existence and didn't push the story," the same user added. "I believe if the Hunter Biden laptop story made mainstream news instead of being debunked as fake news, Trump would have served his concurrent term and we would not be in the mess we are in currently.  My point is that now in 2024, we know that the Hunter Biden laptop story was true in 2020 and it has no effect on the 2020 election results.”

“These bogus charges were never intended to stick. They were 100% intended to be used as election interference. Something that happens in 3rd world countries. Those involved should be arrested and charged, judge included,” a comment read.
