NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Fox News anchor Bret Baier doesn’t just report on President Donald Trump — he impersonates him, too.

The 'Special Report' anchor let loose with his Trump impression not once but twice in recent months, most recently during a candid conversation on The New Yorker Radio Hour with host David Remnick.

The duo was discussing Baier's decades-long career at Fox News, his sometimes heated exchanges with various political figures, Mediaite reported.

Remnick brought up the tense June 2023 interview where Bret Baier confronted Donald Trump over the 2020 election results, telling him that he lost — something Trump didn’t take kindly to as he was still clinging to fraud claims. Trump later branded the interview “nasty.”

Baier stood his ground, describing the whole thing as “tough, but fair.” He also acknowledged something the media world still debates—whether ignoring Hunter Biden’s infamous laptop story might have shifted the outcome of the election.

“He’s called me, you know, ‘I’ll tell you what Bret, you are a five, sometimes you’re a four, you’re nowhere near a seven.’ That’s my best Trump,” Baier said, breaking into his version of Trump’s signature cadence.

“That’s pretty good! I have to say,” Remnick laughed. “I have to say, not bad at all, but what do you do when he lies?”

Baier said the only thing you can do is try to keep up and “fact-check” as much as you can in real time, noting that’s exactly what he tried to do during their one-on-one.

When it comes to Trump’s rollercoaster relationship with the press, Baier says it’s not all that surprising.

“I think it is part of the man. I think it is part of his time here in New York as a New York real estate mogul, and the rough and tumble to punch back and to characterize your opposition before they can characterize you. I think that’s part of it,” he said. “I think it is this cat-and-mouse game. You know, for all of the things he says about the media. Again, he’s reaching out and doing interviews with the same people he says are nasty.”

Bret Baier has a history of impersonating Donald Trump

This wasn’t Bret Baier’s first time channeling his inner Donald Trump. Back in March, at a journalism forum hosted by the nonprofit newsroom NOTUS, he cracked up the crowd with a surprise Trump impression while reflecting on the “confidence” of Trump’s second administration and his record-setting address to Congress.

Baier recalled how Trump seemed hyperaware of the clock ticking during the speech. “Internally, you know, the word went out that Bill Clinton had the longest State of the Union and joint address at one hour, 28 minutes,” he told moderator Josh Dawsey of The Wall Street Journal.

“I’m going to get 139,” Baier said, imitating Trump’s voice, suggesting Trump wanted to beat Clinton’s record by hitting the 1 hour, 39-minute mark.

The room cracked up. “That’s not bad. That’s not bad,” Dawsey said, impressed.

Baier, still channeling Trump, responded, “Thank you, Josh.”

“I’m not going to do mine,” Dawsey playfully said, prompting Baier to joke, “I don’t get to do it on the show that much.”

Of course, Baier’s had plenty of practice — he's interviewed Trump multiple times, including a sit-down that aired just before the Super Bowl. During the NOTUS chat, Dawsey asked how he preps for interviews with someone as unpredictable as Trump.

Baier responded with yet another Trump impression. “I like to do the weave. Sometimes I weave from topic to topic,” he said in Trump’s voice.

Baier has even dared to bust out the impression to Trump’s face, including during their pre–Super Bowl interview.
