WHITE BEAR LAKE, MINNESOTA: A fundraiser has been started to help and support Mike Hinrichs, the husband of the late NHL reporter Jessi Pierce, who lost her life alongside her three young children in a house fire.

The fatal fire broke out in the early hours of Saturday, March 21, which was described as “a tornado of smoke” by one of Pierce’s neighbors. The exact reason behind the fire is yet to be determined.

In a statement, Fire Chief Greg Peterson said, “Our hearts ache for those involved in this tragedy. We ask for the opportunity to allow our community to come together and support one another during this difficult time.”

Meanwhile, the fundraiser has described the Minnesota Wild reporter, who worked as the correspondent for NHL.com, as someone who “had a larger-than-life personality and an even bigger heart.”

“She was devoted to her family, going above and beyond to create many moments of joy and everlasting memories. The children, each with their own unique personalities, shared Jessi's zest for life and love for adventure,” it noted.

Pierce’s death was confirmed by NHL.com editor-in-chief Bill Price, who reportedly said, “The entire NHL.com team is devastated and heartbroken by the loss of Jessi and her children. Jessi's love of her family and hockey was evident in the energy and passion she brought to her work for us. She will be deeply missed.”

Jackie Redmond, who covers the NHL for TNT, paying her tribute on X wrote, “Truly lost for words. What a devastating tragedy. I am so so deeply saddened for Jessi and her children. Praying deeply for her family, friends and loved ones as they navigate an unimaginable loss.”

“I hope wherever Jessi is, she’s seeing the outpouring of loving tributes coming out on this app today. A clear talent, and an undeniably wonderful human being,” she added.

A statement was shared by the Minnesota Wild also as they wrote on X, “We are heartbroken and join the State of Hockey in mourning the tragic loss of Jessi and her children. May they rest in peace 💔.”
