LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Gabby Douglas has opened up about bullying after one of her fans rebuked others online for forgetting her.

The 28-year-old gymnast is recognized as the first Black woman to win the Olympic all-around championship in 2012. Additionally, she earned a silver medal at the 2015 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships.

Gabby Douglas’ fan accuses people of dropping her ‘like a bad habit’

Recently, a TikTok user shared a video, saying, “I still never forget how you’ll fumble Gabby Douglas. Ya’ll dropped her like a bad habit when Simone Biles came on the scene,” referring to the popularity of Biles, who took home four Olympic medals — three gold and one silver — at the Paris Games.

“When was the last time you thought about Gabby Douglas?” the social media user questioned, as reported by People.

Gabby Douglas commented on the clip as she noted, “That’s ok! Constantly being bullied is very tiring and wearing on me. I just want to live my life and be at peace.” [sic]

“Thanks for the love! Definitely needed in this world,” the renowned gymnast added. This came after Biles mentioned Douglas as her inspiration.

She told People, “For all the little girls and boys that look like us, for them to believe in themselves that they can do it too. I was one day in their shoes when I saw Gabby [Douglas] win and I was like, 'Oh my gosh, if she can do it, I can do it.’”

She further explained, “I’m sad to say that due to a foot injury during practice, I will not be able to continue my 2024 journey. this may be the end of this chapter but not the end of my gymnastics story. Thank you all for being with me on this journey and lifting me up on my lowest days i love you all so much!"

“Sending all the best to the girls tonight! always cheering usa on! - gabby,” Douglas added.

'Age is really just a number' for Gabby Douglas

However, Gabby Douglas is ready to compete in the 2028 Los Angeles Games. The artistic gymnast told People in July, “I know it's four years away, but I'm looking forward to it. Still representing the USA, still continuing to do gymnastics, so I'm excited.”

Though Douglas will be 32 when the next Olympics will take place, she’s sure of her capabilities.

She told the publication, “I feel like at this point, age is really just a number because my body can still do amazing things even at 28,” before adding, “And I just think that when you have the proper diet, structure, schedule, and everything that aligns, then you can do anything that you put your mind to.”
