'Gag City': Fans paint town pink with AI-generated 'Nicki Minaj kingdom' ahead of 'Pink Friday 2' release
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: "Gag City" began as a straightforward tagging by Nicki Minaj supporters to express their excitement for the rapper to be "gagged" (slang for being stunned speechless), ahead of her 'Pink Friday 2' album release, but it quickly expanded into much more.
Nicki recently announced that her upcoming album, 'Pink Friday 2', would be released on Friday, December 8.
She unveiled the album cover, which featured the Super Bass rapper standing above a pink-tinted city and what appeared to be a pink subway platform, surrounded by pink clouds.

Barbz created AI-generated 'Gag City'
Artificial intelligence has made an impact on the entertainment industry through things like AI versions of classic songs sung by other performers, fake movie posters, and the ability to put oneself in Disney movies. However, Nicki Minaj's admirers have elevated it to a new level. They built an entire city.
Nicki's admirers, a fandom lovingly called 'the Barbz,' began posting AI pictures from the made-up town of "Gag City" while awaiting the release of her album.
Barbz chose to play on the term "gagging," which is used to describe the reaction to someone or something, usually a celebrity, who is stunning. She labeled the city below her on the album cover as 'Gag City'.
Barbz has even gone so far as to use AI to create a virtual "Gag City" that features pink skyscrapers, homes, airports, and festivals.
Fans created more artificial intelligence images on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to fill in the blanks of what they thought the Gag City should look like.

Twitter is ablaze with several AI renditions of the metropolis, featuring every building painted pink and its populace donning Nicki's iconic pink bobbed hairstyle.
Even further, in an apparent attempt to spur the local economy, fans have gone so far as to ask AI to set up spas, radio theaters, and marijuana shops.
Fans are also requesting AI to generate what other celebs, such as Michael Jackson or Ariana Grande, could look like when they visit Gag City.

The latest AI-generated Gag City creation took place following Nicki's announcement on X of her fifth album on Wednesday, December 6.
Nicki posted on X on December 6, saying, "As we begin to prepare for landing, please make sure your tray tables are put back up & your seat belts are tightly fastened. The captain has activated the “no bathroom” sign. If you look out the window, you’ll begin to see the beauty…clear waters, pink dolphins…#GagCity #PF2."
Nicki's fifth studio album, Pink Friday 2 includes songs like 'Super Freaky Girl', which went viral on TikTok by sampling Rick James' 'Super Freak', per The Mirror.

Fans soon got innovative and created "Gag City" stores such as radio halls, Target, Best Buy, and museums along with marijuana dispensaries and chicken shops. The list is endless!
Barbz quickly began bringing AI incarnations of their favorite celebrities, like BTS, Drake, Henry Cavil, and Anna Wintour, to "Gag City" as well.
One of the Barbz created the Nicki-inspired Statue of Liberty and wrote: "I pledge allegiance to the GAG of the United States of America and to the Republic Records for which it stands, one Nicki, irreplaceable, with lyrics and punchlines for all #GAGCITY #Pf2@NICKIMINAJ"
