YUKON, OKLAHOMA: Garth Brooks has shared how the long-lasting marriage of former president Jimmy Carter and his wife, Rosalynn Carter, inspired him to foster a healthy relationship with his wife, Trisha Yearwood.

The country music legend revealed that he admired the Carters' ability to engage in lighthearted disagreements, or “bickering,” as a key element of their enduring bond.

Garth Brooks reflects on Carters' 77-year marriage and valuable lessons

Jimmy Carter, who died on December 29, and his wife Rosalynn, who died in November 2023, were married for 77 years. They became known not only for their decades of public service but also for the respect and affection they maintained despite occasional disagreements.

Brooks reflected on his time spent with the Carters, particularly through their shared work with Habitat for Humanity, and the powerful lesson he took from their relationship.

"They’ve inspired us in a lot of ways, in the ways you expect: humanity, humbleness, work ethic," Brooks told PEOPLE magazine in October 2023.

He added, "But they’ve also inspired us by their example as husband and wife. We worked beside them for the last 15 years, and you notice right away they bicker back and forth about the right way to do things. That kind of works for us too!"

The Friends in Low Places singer, 62, and Yearwood, 50, have been married since 2005. Carter, 99, and Rosalynn, 96, tied the knot in 1946.

In 2023, the country music power couple took part in the Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Work Project in Charlotte, North Carolina.

This initiative, in partnership with Habitat for Humanity, has helped construct over 4,000 homes across 14 countries, with the involvement of more than 100,000 volunteers since its establishment in 1984.

"To whom much is given, much is expected," Yearwood stated. "We’ll never fill [the Carters] shoes, but we’re doing the best we can."

She shared that the couple "fell in love" with the work Habitat for Humanity does and for the Carters themselves following their involvement in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in 2007.

"We knew we loved the Carters and we fell more in love with them just getting a chance to work alongside them," she said. "We love what Habitat for Humanity is about: spreading love. It is about creating community."

Country music star Garth Brooks is facing serious allegations in a lawsuit filed by a woman, referred to as "Jane Roe," who claims she was assaulted by the singer during a work trip in 2019.

Brooks has strongly denied the allegations, claiming the accusations are false and part of an extortion attempt. In response to the lawsuit, Brooks said he has been subjected to threats and extortion and has filed a counter-suit against Roe for defamation.

His attorney emphasized that Brooks did not offer any hush money and denied all of the claims made against him.

Brooks' wife, Trisha Yearwood has signaled her ongoing support of her husband amid the serious allegations.
