NEVEDA, LAS VEGAS: Internet is shocked as two-time WNBA champion Kelsey Plum and New York Giants tight end Darren Waller filed for a joint divorce petition. This comes just one year after the couple got married, according to online court records by People.

Plum, 29, and Waller, 31, filed a joint petition for divorce in Clark County, Nevada on April 23.

What did Kelsey Plum say about her divorce?

Just after the filing, Plum shared a heartbreaking message on her Instagram and X account. She said, "I'm devastated. I walked through fire for that man, but now I see it's time to go," the athlete wrote on her Instagram Stories.

"God has given me an incredible life, and I'm truly so grateful for the profound love from my family and friends," the Las Vegas Aces star continued.

"One day I'll share my story, today is not that day. Thank you for the grace to process my pain, to forgive and move forward. Today and everyday I will continue to choose joy. Much love KP."

Plum ended her message by writing, "Philippians 1:6." The bible verse means, "He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ."

At the time of writing, Plum's tweet had more than 13 million views. Waller played with the Las Vegas Raiders when he first started dating Plum, a two-time WNBA champion with the Aces.

Before getting married on March 4, 2023, they supposedly dated for almost a year. On January 22, 2023, Plum and Waller submitted a marriage application. Waller was transferred across the nation to the New York Giants not long after they were married.

Just weeks before the divorce filing, Waller spoke to People about his plans for the future, and how he's considering retiring from football. He said, "I'm at the point now where I'm like, 'Is this something that I want to continue to invest my time, invest my body, invest my mind in?' And I've got to come to a decision on that."

"I'm a guy who's into a lot more than football," Waller added. "And football's done a lot for me, I'm so grateful, but it's a grind, and you've got to be 100 per cent willing to suit up for it, and I've got to decide if I'm 100 per cent or not."

On the other hand, Plum will kick off a new WNBA season in May this year and she is currently training with Team USA for the upcoming Summer Olympics in Paris.
