WASHINGTON, DC: California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s office took a quick shot at President Donald Trump on Monday after the White House arranged for McDonald’s to be delivered straight to the Oval Office via DoorDash.

The governor’s press office quoted CBS News White House reporter Olivia Rinaldi’s post showing the delivery and captioned it, “MAKE AMERICA HEALTHY AGAIN!”

Newsom borrowed the campaign slogan from the Trump administration’s health initiative led by HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr and used it as a jab at the President’s choice of lunch.

Trump’s McDonald’s delivery to the Oval Office

The event unfolded on April 13 when DoorDash driver Sharon Simmons, a grandmother from Arkansas wearing a red “DoorDash Grandma” T-shirt, knocked on the exterior door of the Oval Office carrying two bags of the President’s usual order of cheeseburgers and fries.

Trump stepped out and greeted her with a “Hello. Nice to see you." He held up the bags and told reporters, “Look at this!” Glancing at the cameras, he quipped, “This doesn’t look staged, does it?”

The delivery was staged to tout the administration's “no tax on tips” provision that Trump pushed through as part of last summer’s One Big Beautiful Bill. The policy lets tip-earning workers deduct up to $25,000 in tip income from federal taxes through 2028.

Simmons told reporters the change had put an extra $11,000 in her pocket. “It has helped my family out immensely and I definitely appreciate it,” she said. "We would like for it to continue, but I’m going to enjoy it while I’ve got it.”

Trump reached into his pocket and handed her a $100 bill on the spot. “Wait,” he said as he produced the cash. Simmons, who has completed more than 14,000 deliveries since 2022, confirmed afterward that the White House had become “very” good tippers.

The White House later confirmed Trump personally carried the bags inside and handed them off to West Wing staff. DoorDash called it the first delivery of its kind to the White House.

Long-running feud

Trump and Newsom have been at odds for years, but the feud has only escalated after Trump took office again. Newsom has leaned into an aggressive social-media strategy, trying to match Trump’s bombast with his own brand of trolling.

In one July 2025 exchange, Newsom’s office responded to criticism from White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller by posting, “This fascist cuck in DC continues his assault on democracy and the Constitution, and his attempt to replace the sovereignty of the people with autocracy. Sorry the Constitution hurt your feelings, Stephen. Cry harder.”

Newsom later defended the approach. He told reporters, “I don’t think they understand any other kind of language, so I have no apologies for standing tall and firm and pushing back against their cruelty.”

Trump has returned fire in kind, dusting off the nickname “Newscum” and blaming Newsom for everything from California wildfires to the state’s descent into lawlessness.

White House communications director Steven Cheung once labeled Newsom “the biggest cuck in politics.”
