LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Retired Brigadier General Jeffrey Magram has taken legal action against Democrat California Governor Gavin Newsom and other state officials, alleging a disturbing pattern of antisemitic discrimination, harassment, and wrongful termination within the California Military Department.

The lawsuit, filed on January 24 in a Los Angeles court, reveals troubling details about Magram's experiences under his former superior, Maj Gen Matthew Beevers.

Allegations of Antisemitic Discrimination and Harassment

Magram, who is Jewish, asserts that Beevers fostered a hostile work environment through repeated instances of antisemitic behavior over two years.

These behaviors reportedly included derogatory remarks about Jewish individuals and insidious comments that perpetuated harmful stereotypes. Despite Magram's efforts to address these issues through formal complaints, he claims that his concerns were consistently ignored by Governor Newsom's office.

The controversy surrounding Magram gained momentum in January 2023 when reports surfaced about his firing, which followed allegations of misconduct, including the misuse of troops for personal errands and inappropriate actions related to the readiness of a fighter jet during the early stages of the Covid-19 pandemic.

While an internal disciplinary board found merit in these allegations, Magram vehemently disputes the reasons for his termination, alleging that his outspokenness against Beevers' antisemitism ultimately led to his dismissal.

Magram further alleges that Beevers retaliated against him by revisiting minor past issues and attempting to undermine his disability claims, resulting in the loss of certain benefits.

These retaliatory actions, according to Magram, underscore a pervasive culture of discrimination and abuse of power within the California Military Department.

In a statement to Fox News, Magram expressed deep concern for the welfare of servicemembers and civilians within the department.

“I am extremely proud of my more than 37 years of service to California and this great nation, but I still have serious concerns for the welfare of the servicemembers and civilians that currently serve in the Department,” Magram said.

“MG Beevers mounted an unprecedented defamatory campaign against me, and it was supported by the Governor.”

“I want to make sure this never happens again. MG Beevers's actions were disturbingly aggressive and unexplainable, and he needs to be held accountable,” he added.

“It’s shocking that Governor Newsom disregarded the many attempts made to correct this situation and appointed MG Beevers permanently as the Adjutant General.”

However, the response from Newsom's office and the California Military Department presents a stark contrast to Magram's allegations.

“In 2021, the United States Air Force Inspector General investigated Brigadier General Magram for multiple instances of misconduct involving ethical violations and maltreatment of subordinates. On 26 October 2021, the Vice Chief of Staff of the Air Force issued Brigadier General Magram a Letter of Admonishment for these indiscretions,” a spokesperson said in a statement.

“This independent action by the Air Force formed the basis of a removal action initiated by the California Military Department to hold Gen. Magram accountable for his misconduct. The recommended discipline was unanimously upheld by a board of three senior officers with no involvement in the underlying incidents,” they continued.

“All actions were taken based on independent investigations by the US Air Force and the Military Department Inspector General. We look forward to defending our actions to hold a senior leader accountable for his misconduct,” the department added.

Social Media Reactions

Despite these rebuttals, social media erupted with criticism directed at Governor Newsom, questioning his handling of the situation and its potential implications for his political future.

"Gavin is a terrible governor," one posted on X.

"This won’t help Newsom’s presidential ambitions," another wrote.

"Hope it’s a MASSIVE LAWSUIT," someone else added.

"The only possible way that Newsom could ever be dethroned lol," another chimed in.
