PALM SPRINGS, CALIFORNIA: Tristan Rogers, the beloved actor who has portrayed Robert Scorpio on ‘General Hospital’ for over four decades, has been diagnosed with cancer.

The 79-year-old soap opera veteran is now focused on his health, working closely with doctors on a treatment plan, according to a statement shared by his representative on Thursday, July 17.

“While he remains hopeful and is working closely with his medical team on a treatment plan, this is a challenging time for Tristan and his family,” the rep revealed in the statement.

“As they face both the emotional and physical burdens that come with this diagnosis, the family kindly asks for privacy and understanding. They are deeply grateful for the outpouring of support and love from their friends and family,” they added. 

Rogers, who first stepped into the role of the suave secret agent in 1980, last appeared on the show on November 12, 2024, when his character left town with his ex-wife, Holly Sutton. 

Rogers has also appeared in shows such as ‘The Bay’, ‘Studio City’, and ‘The Young and the Restless’.

The family also expressed deep gratitude for the support from friends and fans, sharing that Rogers “sends his love” and “he appreciates their loyalty and encouragement over the years.”

News of Rogers’ diagnosis comes during a season of cast changes at ‘General Hospital’. Kirsten Storms, who plays Maxie Jones, recently announced she’s stepping away from the show temporarily as she settles into her new home in Tennessee.

Beloved ‘General Hospital’ actor Tristan Rogers' revelation prompted an outpouring of support and prayers from fans across the internet.

The 78-year-old soap opera legend has been a staple of daytime television since the early 1980s, and fans wasted no time expressing their heartfelt reactions and well-wishes.

One user wrote, “Sending prayers. Tristan is one of my favorite actors! I enjoyed his portrayal of Robert Scorpio,” while another commented, “Thank you for all the wonderful years you have graced our TV screen. It was so nice. Sending love and prayers.”

Longtime fans reflected on his iconic role, with a person writing, “Tristan has been one of my favorites from his first time on GH, sending his wishes for a speedy recovery.”
