George Stephanopoulos gives 'GMA' shoutout to daughter Harper as she turns 20 amid tough week for family

MANHATTAN, NEW YORK CITY: George Stephanopoulos had a sweet reason to smile during Monday’s 'Good Morning America' broadcast — his youngest daughter, Harper, just turned 20.

The longtime 'GMA' anchor gave a warm shout-out to his daughter live on air while chatting with co-hosts Michael Strahan and Rebecca Jarvis during a segment celebrating 'Dancing With the Stars’ 20th anniversary, reports Hello magazine.

“You just made me think of another anniversary,” he said. “Twenty years ago today, Harper Stephanopoulos was born.”

He added with a grin, “She’s not watching, but happy birthday, Harper!” prompting Michael and Rebecca to chime in with their own birthday wishes.

Harper, a student at Vanderbilt University, is the youngest of George and wife Ali Wentworth’s two daughters. Their oldest, Elliott, 22, recently graduated from Brown University.

The family celebration came on the heels of some difficult news. Just days earlier, Ali Wentworth revealed they were mourning the loss of their beloved family dog, Cooper.

In a heartfelt Instagram post, the 'Ali's Well That Ends Well' author shared a touching video montage of their beloved dog over the years, writing, “I lost my longtime companion. The greatest dog and integral part of our family.”

George and Ali, who have been married since 2001, became empty-nesters in 2022 when Harper left for college. While Harper is now a rising junior at Vanderbilt where she shares campus space with other celebrity progenies like Gwyneth Paltrow’s daughter Apple and GMA co-anchor Lara Spencer’s daughter Katharine.

The proud dad marked Elliott’s graduation with an Instagram photo of the family at the ceremony, writing, “We have a college graduate!!! Congratulations to Elliott, and to the entire class of 2025. We love you and are so proud of you, E!”
