NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Veteran host George Stephanopoulos did not appear on 'Good Morning America' for the entirety of the week ahead of Christmas, reports US Sun.

Amid his unexplained absence, Stephanopoulos' wife, Ali Wentworth, shared personal snapshots of the couple preparing for, and celebrating the holidays at their home, on Instagram.

Ali Wentworth shares heartwarming Christmas post

Wentworth, 58, posted a heartwarming picture of her husband on the day of Christmas Eve, which showed the 62-year-old in a scruffy look.

Stephanopoulos wore a Howard Stern hoodie in the picture and complimented it with a puffer coat. He further sported a disheveled beard and paired them all with a charming smile.

The post was captioned, "Always representing!!!"

'GMA' fans concerned over George Stephanopoulos' absence from show

'GMA' fans brought up the unexplained absence of her husband from the show and voiced their concerns on Ali's post.

"Where are you? This week with George S. I miss your reporting! Nice photo though!" commented a user.

"Look at adorable George! I missed you on GMA this week!" wrote another.

"Well looks like George is enjoying time off," said a third.

The Sun reported that the couple was having a difficult time trying to adapt to the role of empty nesters, as a result of their daughters leaving for college this year. They were supposed to return home for the holidays but were not seen in the photographs uploaded on social media.

Whit Johnson co-hosts 'GMA' in George Stephanopoulos's absence

Johnson filled in for the anchor and former White House Communications Director multiple times as he remained absent from his hosting at 'GMA' duties recently.

During the December 19 episode, co-host Michael Strahan was not present along with Stephanopoulos, and was filled in for by Linsey Davies. He has since rejoined the show.

There has been no update as to when George will be returning to 'GMA', stated The Sun, but it may likely be after the holiday season.
