The ordeal began on June 29 when the police attempted a routine traffic stop on a male driver in Astoria, Queens.

Instead of complying, the driver fled, prompting a police chase that ended in Greenpoint, Brooklyn—right in front of Cohen and his wife.

The suspect's car collided head-on with the couple’s vehicle, leaving Cohen and Traina injured. In an emotional interview with Page Six at HBO’s 'The Penguin' premiere in New York, Cohen, 62, recalled the terrifying moment. "We thought we were dead," he confessed.

Both Cohen and Traina sustained serious injuries from the crash. Traina suffered damage to her arm, while Cohen endured a broken sternum.

"My wife’s arm is all messed up. I have a broken sternum, which is supposed to be never-healing. It’s like called a nonunion break, and it’s never going to heal," Cohen shared.

Despite the severity of the accident, the suspect fled on foot after the crash, even exchanging gunfire with police before disappearing.

His car erupted in flames, but it remains unclear whether law enforcement ever apprehended the suspect, as reports of his capture were never confirmed.

After the accident, Cohen turned to social media to express his gratitude for surviving the harrowing ordeal. He shared photos from the hospital, highlighting his injuries and the wreckage of their car.

The images were accompanied by a heartfelt message about the fragility of life. "With broken bones, bruised bodies, lots of drugs, and the impact of a random act of aggression that hit us we venture on," Cohen wrote.

The actor continued, "I’m very pissed my existence right now is about healing, but at the same time truly grateful @afunnybunnypicture and I are both here to experience the love and incredible generosity of friends and family."

Despite his injuries, Cohen made a remarkable appearance on the red carpet at 'The Penguin' premiere, which he attended with fellow cast members Colin Farrell, Cristin Milioti, Theo Rossi, Clancy Brown, and Michael Zeger.
