CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA: Carolina Panthers tight end Hayden Hurst has spoken out about a significant head injury sustained during a November game.

The 30-year-old went on X, expressing gratitude to fans, saying, "I appreciate everyone reaching out and checking on me."

“I suffered a pretty nasty concussion against the Bears a few weeks ago & don't remember up to 4 hours after the game. Scary situation but the Panthers have been incredible walking me through this process,” he added.

Hurst reveals the injury is not career-threatening

Hurst further added, “While it was scary, it is NOT career-ending. I'm starting my return to play this week, so fingers crossed I make it back for the last few weeks! God Bless & Keep Pounding !!!!”

Hurst's father, Jerry, initially provided an update on his son, stating, "@haydenrhurst has been diagnosed with Post Traumatic Amnesia by an independent neurologist as a result of the hit he took in Chicago on November 9. Slow recovery, don’t know when he’ll be back. Prayers appreciated!"

Interestingly, after the injury, he returned to the game, but the next day, Panthers’ management decided to keep him on concussion protocol, as per The Athletic.

Yale Medicine defines post-traumatic amnesia as "a temporary state of confusion and memory loss that occurs following a traumatic brain injury.

During this period, the individual may have difficulty forming new memories, recalling past events, or understanding their surroundings."

Hurst has been part of 9 games and has 18 receptions for 184 yards and one touchdown, per the outlet.

Fans wish Hurst a quick recovery

Numerous NFL followers responded to Hurst's post on X; one wrote, "Well, I think I can say all of Cincinnati loves you, man. Get the noggin better."

The second commented, "God bless, man. It’s a very tough game you play. Appreciate you putting it all on the line and hoping for a speedy and full recovery."

A user shared her personal experience of suffering a head injury in the past, saying, "I had a similar concussion when I got into a bike accident and went headfirst into the road. Don't remember the entire day until about 8 hours after the accident. Only ever got back one tiny memory of the day before 8 pm. Crazy stuff. Heal up!"
