LANSING, MICHIGAN: Democrat Governor Gretchen Whitmer (MI) defended President Joe Biden, emphasizing his rigorous schedule and dispelling concerns about his age and mental fitness.

Whitmer, the national co-chair of the Biden-Harris campaign, spoke about the president's demanding calendar, which often includes international travel and numerous engagements in a recent interview with USA Today.

Gov Gretchen Whitmer addresses concerns over Joe Biden's debate performance

The Michigan governor's comments come after Joe Biden faced criticism following his shaky debate performance against former President Donald Trump on June 27, sparking concerns among Democrats over his capability to serve another four-year term.

Whitmer remained firm in her support for the president amid his facing calls to quit the 2024 race, according to The Hill.

“Well, as I said, I think that this is a 90-minute snapshot of someone who has been back and forth to Europe twice in one week,” she said.

Whitmer, 52, described Biden's “brutal calendar” as something difficult to deal even for someone her age.

“And so I think about all the extraordinary things that people see, but don’t actually pause and say, wow, he actually keeps up this really aggressive calendar, and he’s showing up, and certainly there’s that debate performance, and then there’ll be millions of others where he’ll demonstrate the vigor and the capacity,” she continued.

“So, I think that now is not the time to just, I think, throw it all out because of one 90-minute debate," she added.

Gov Gretchen Whitmer says she unequivocally supports Joe Biden

When asked if it would be beneficial for the nation if Joe Biden quit his reelection bid, Gretchen Whitmer firmly rejected the notion saying that she is "not going to entertain any conversation along that line.”

“The president is in this race, he is running, and he’s got my unequivocal support,” said Whitmer.

She also expressed discomfort over discussions about Biden's replacement, particularly her name being floated as a potential replacement among other names like Vice President Kamala Harris and Governor Josh Shapiro.

“I’m a co-chair of the Biden-Harris campaign. I’m working my tail off to make sure that we’re successful. I’ve done travel, I’ve done a ton of work here in Michigan, and we’re going to do that,” said Whitmer.

“So I feel like it actually undermines the work that I’m putting in on behalf of the administration. So I don’t like seeing it because I don’t want to talk about that stuff," she added.

Internet slams Gov Gretchen Whitmer over Joe Biden's 'aggressive calendar' remark

Reacting to Gretchen Whitmer defending Joe Biden's candidacy, noting that the president has a rigorous schedule, one user on X (formerly Twitter) wrote, "That's the point of being president."

"This is just pathetic at this point," a netizen commented while another user wrote, "And Biden's image rehabilitation continues."

"Gretchen, darling, we have eyes," a user tweeted while another user wrote, "Does Whitmer know that the WH releases his daily itinerary and everyday it’s far from an aggressive calendar. The exact opposite in fact," and a netizen commented, "Why do these democrats think we’re that stupid?"
