MANHATTAN, NEW YORK: Stephen Colbert returned to 'The Late Show' on Monday, July 8, after a two-week absence, to discuss Joe Biden and Donald Trump's June 27 CNN debate.

The comedian admitted that the president's performance was less than stellar, before pointing out that Donald Trump "is demonstrably a monster."

Stephen Colbert pokes fun at Joe Biden's debate performance while praising his presidency

Colbert started the segment by aligning himself with those who commend Biden's performance as a president.

The late-night host said, "So, should he stay or should he go? Who am I to recommend? I don’t know what’s going on in Joe Biden’s mind — something I apparently have in common with Joe Biden. The debate was 11 days ago and everybody is still talking about it, and it's a shame because Joe Biden is a great president."

"And in the debate, Trump proved once again that he is demonstrably a monster. He is a demonster," quipped Colbert before moving on to share his thoughts on the president's performance.

Colbert pointed out, "Keep in mind, Joe called for this debate, it’s the earliest they’ve ever had a presidential debate, and going into it, all Joe had to do was allay people’s fears that he was too old. But instead, Biden’s shakiness allowed Trump to get away with 90 minutes of lies, racism, and weird golf brags. Which is why a lot of people are saying this was the worst debate performance of all time."

He took a swipe at Biden, saying, "But I don’t think that’s fair. I think that Biden debated as well as Abraham Lincoln — if you dug him up right now."

Internet reacts to Stephen Colbert's analysis of the Joe Biden-Donald Trump debate

Colbert's viewers weren't keen on his comments regarding the presidential debate, especially his jokes about Biden.

One said, "Can we please stop. I was disappointed in you tonight Stephen. The more we keep talking about it the more it helps Trump. Can we start talking about him now and all the crap he’s saying. Keep this up and Trump will be back in office. Get behind Biden now and let’s work to get him reelected. Vote blue."

Another stated, "The only people still talking about it are the MEDIA. Let it go! The voters know what to do & we’re voting for Joe," and a person remarked, "Let’s stop the constant Biden negativity and focus more on the convicted felon running against him."

"Booo. Shame on you Stephen," expressed someone else, while an individual added, "This monologue was an infuriating disappointment. Do better."

"This isn’t helpful and it’s not funny. What is wrong with Dems who want a Dem??? Don’t demean our only hope to keep democracy," asked one person.
