WASHINGTON, DC: Rep Jasmine Crockett's possible entry into the Texas Democratic primary for the US Senate has brought sharp criticism from Texas Governor Greg Abbott, who predicted she'll be "pummeled" and "crushed" in the state-wide race.

Crockett plans to decide within hours of the December 8 filing deadline, reportedly having prepared two cashier’s checks, one for a Senate bid and one for her current House seat.

Greg Abbott says Jasmine Crockett's progressive socialist agenda will be pummeled

Greg Abbott on Sunday, December 7, directly addressed Jasmine Crockett's potential candidacy on X, writing, “Jasmine Crockett about to learn the hard way that most Texans are very different from her district, her base & her values,” and prophesied, “She’ll be pummeled for her progressive socialist agenda & get crushed by the Republican nominee for Senate.”

Abbott continued, “The Texas political cemetery is filled with blow hards like her who have no idea what it’s like to run statewide,” and concluded by embracing the prospective disruption in saying, “Looking forward to watching the circus– and KEEPING the US Senate seat red. On the bright side for her, maybe she’ll end up with a job on The View.”

These comments come after previous tensions when Crockett called Abbott, who has been a wheelchair user since his accident in 1984 as "Governor Hot Wheels," which had drawn condemnation from disability advocates and state leaders alike earlier in the year.

Jasmine Crockett prepares two checks as filing deadline looms

Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett has intensified her deliberations in the final days before the Texas candidate filing deadline of December 8 at 6 pm, scheduling an announcement event for Monday afternoon.

Those close to her planning have said she has cut two cashier’s checks, one for a Senate bid and one for seeking re-election in her Dallas-based House district.

Reportedly, she has been contacting Democratic leaders across Texas to gauge their support for her potential Senate run. As part of this planning, she has spoken with Rep Marc Veasey about him possibly running for her current House seat if she decides to leave it to campaign for the Senate.

Meanwhile, she has also explored forming a coordinated slate of Democratic statewide candidates, though no such arrangement has materialized.

Crockett has also spoken to Rep Marc Veasey about the timing of his filing, should she vacate her House seat, and she has discussed a turnout strategy with Stacey Abrams, focused on increasing participation among Black and Latino voters.

Jasmine Crockett's Senate consideration reportedly deepens existing divisions among Texas Democrats

Jasmine Crockett's plans have reportedly deepened existing divisions among Texas Democrats, who were hoping to avoid a fractured primary field.

Over the past week, Crockett has been on the phone with major party figures across the state, according to people familiar with the conversations.

In those calls, she has apparently suggested reshaping the Democratic field around her potential entry. Specifically, she recently urged former Rep Colin Allred, who is already running for Senate, to abandon the race and instead run for governor, while proposing that Rep Joaquin Castro run for attorney general as part of a broader statewide slate.
