LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Jessica Tarlov made a return to Fox News on Monday after her maternity leave, and it didn’t take long for her to spark a heated exchange with co-host Greg Gutfeld on 'The Five.'

The discussion became particularly intense as they debated the aftermath of an attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump and the subsequent political rhetoric surrounding the incident.

Assassination attempt at Trump rally

Over the weekend, Donald Trump experienced a dramatic and violent event at a rally in Pennsylvania when an attempted assassin shot him in the ear. Although Trump survived, the attack resulted in one person being killed and two others injured.

The assailant, who was neutralized by the Secret Service, was a registered Republican with a history of a small donation to a Democratic fundraising campaign. The exact motives behind the attack remain unclear.

In the wake of this incident, many Republicans and conservative commentators have been quick to blame the Democrats for the shooting.

They have connected the attack to President Joe Biden’s recent remarks at a private fundraiser, where he reportedly urged donors to focus on defeating Trump.

The right-wing narrative suggests that such rhetoric fosters a climate of political violence, while President Biden has described his comments as a “mistake.”

Jessica Tarlov defends Democrats as Greg Gutfeld dismisses political rhetoric debate

Jessica Tarlov took a firm stand against the notion that violent political speech is solely a Democratic issue.

Tarlov asserted, “Nobody who’s being an honest broker can possibly believe that the Democratic rhetoric is the problem here… Donald Trump sent a fundraising email just last week that said Joe Biden is a threat to democracy. And only one of these candidates has inspired people to send pipe bombs to leading Democrats across the country, and only one has inspired mass shooters.”

She continued, “Talk about firing up the base, Donald Trump has been doing that since 2016. Remember when he said the Second Amendment people could take care of it when everybody was talking about Hillary Clinton abolishing the Second Amendment and she’ll get to appoint judges? He also praised a congressman from Montana who body-slammed a reporter and said, ‘he’s my type.’”

Gutfeld responded, “Oh, come on! That was hilarious!” To which Tarlov shot back, “Oh, that’s hilarious?!”

Gutfeld then pivoted to focus on the attempted assassination itself, emphasizing the seriousness of the situation by stating, “We’re talking about an attempted assassination that left a man dead, the shooter [was] groomed and incentivized by a drumbeat of demonization.”

Tarlov pushed back against Gutfeld’s argument, countering with, “You have no idea what that registered Republican was groomed by.”

One user commented, "Gutfeld is a hypocrite."

Another user replied, "Donny Hate Speech saw his sordid life flash by him 48 hours ago if that was actually a bullet."
