The couple chose Cabo as the wedding destination for its sentimental value. "When we first started dating, the first trip I took Greg on was to Cabo," Cooper reminisced about planning a surprise birthday getaway where "I had family do a personal video for him," he said.
The venue also held fond memories from a previous family vacation.
Mathis Jr, the son of courtroom television star Judge Greg Mathis, expressed his desire for a unique officiating experience. Both grooms’ fathers officiated the ceremony, with Mathis Jr envisioning this moment since he was a child attending weddings officiated by his father.
The wedding’s "casual, but elevated beach" theme featured dark purple, navy blue, and black décor with cheerful yellow accents.

The couple donned custom suits from Sperdon Clothing, with Mathis Jr in navy blue to honor his University of Michigan roots, and Cooper in purple in memory of his mother, who died from lupus. The ceremony featured a live performance of Luther Vandross' classic love song 'Here and Now', reflecting their shared appreciation for the romantic tune.
As the celebration continued, the couple changed into second outfits for the reception, which featured a custom menu showcasing their favorite seafood dishes, including Baja lobster and fish tacos, and a beautifully crafted three-tier wedding cake.
Mathis Jr and Cooper planned engaging family activities, such as whale watching and tequila tasting, further embracing their vision of a memorable family trip. The couple is also planning a larger celebration in Los Angeles in 2025, allowing more friends and family to join in their joyous occasion.

Greg Mathis Jr shared his thoughts on the significance of his commitment to Elliott Cooper. He emphasized the "permanency" of their union, expressing how it provides a sense of security. "It feels like a level of security. Not that I needed that, but it just felt like I woke up after processing some of this and just the permanency of it all and I was like, 'This is my husband,'" he explained.
For Mathis Jr, the marriage symbolizes a profound level of commitment. "It feels special to be able to commit my entire self to somebody else for the rest of my life," he said, noting that this new chapter has made him feel like a true adult. "I finally feel like an adult. Like real life's about to start."
After their wedding, Mathis Jr and Cooper are planning a honeymoon but are torn between Bora Bora and an African safari. Looking ahead, the couple is eager to settle into their new home in Los Angeles and hopes to start a family together.
"We're talking more about kids as far as the next big chapter, and then just continuing to really grow together," Cooper shared.
Mathis Jr found it hard to express just how meaningful the experience has been. "I would definitely say it's a dream come true. I know that's cheesy, but it is. It's everything I've ever wanted," he added.
