Gregory Meeks slams Donald Trump’s ‘low IQ’ presser at Mar-a-Lago, says ‘he's not all there anymore’

WASHINGTON, DC: Representative Gregory Meeks (DNY), chair of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) PAC, criticized former president Donald Trump’s Friday, August 9, press conference which he held at Mar-a-Lago.

The presser, as per Meeky, suggested that Trump may not be fully mentally present, besides highlighting his 'low IQ.'

The comments followed Donald Trump's long and meandering press conference at the Florida estate which many interpreted as an attempt to deflect attention away from Vice President Kamala Harris.

Meeks appeared on CNN with Sara Sidner to discuss the Thursday press conference held by Trump. According to Meeks, Trump’s performance was problematic.

“This guy, he was incoherent, nonsensical,” Meeks said during the interview.  “He was an individual who sounded like he had a low IQ," he added, according to The Hill.

Meeks expressed growing concern about Donald Trump’s ability to communicate effectively.

“He can’t seem to finish a sentence,” Meeks said, suggesting there might be something “wrong with him.”

The New York Democrat raised concerns that Trump's advanced age—at 78—might be contributing to his current state.

“I don’t know, maybe it’s he is incomprehensible. Maybe he is losing a lot because, you know, he is the oldest person to run for president of the United States,” Meeks remarked.

Gregory, in Meeks’s comments, mark a notable shift from the narrative that Donald Trump and his allies had previously pushed against President Joe Biden.

For months, Trump and Republicans questioned Biden’s mental sharpness and suitability for the presidency due to his age.

With Biden now out of the presidential race and Harris stepping in as the Democratic frontrunner, attention has turned to Trump’s own age and mental acuity.

Meeks's criticism of Trump as being “not all there anymore” highlights this shift which is a  reversal from earlier critiques of Biden.

Internet reacts to Gregory Meeks' criticism of Donald Trump

The response on social media to Gregory Meeks’ remarks has been varied with some criticizing and others commenting in support. 

One user on X commented, “When was he ever all there? lol,” while another observed, “Representative Meeks clearly has a talent for understating the case.”

Another user added, “He hasn’t been all there for years.” Some responses were more critical of Meeks’s statements, with one user suggesting, “Yep he’s suffering from ED! Election Dysfunction.”

Another user remarked, “Trump is old—too damn old to be doing this. His act is old too; he belongs in a Vegas lounge act, not in the Oval. Trump has dementia. Keeping Trump on the ticket is elder abuse. #TrumpMeltdow,” drawing a parallel to previous criticisms of Biden.
